I don't want to just be posting about numbers like a clock, but the 2 million mark of monthly active users across the network is a pretty big deal. This is going big numbers! Shout out to all the server operators who are absorbing this wave.

I put a CDN in front of the images, so they should load faster now. I've also upgraded the server again. A new iOS app release is waiting for review.

 @Gargron ...since this upgrade, GIFs don't render at all (they remain blurred out - across platforms, apps). Seems to be a related bug? New Mastodon for iOS build on #TestFlight. Improved login screen, media upload progress and retry on failure, verified links on profiles, bookmarks, a more obvious account switcher, and other fixes.

@Gargron Is GIF Uploading in the pipeline? I have to use Metatext to compose a Post with a GIF in it, but otherwise I prefer to use the native App, so it feels a bit odd keeping another one around just for that @Gargron Eugen, as I am quite new here. What is the process of the updates in iOS app - especially Mastodon and Metatext? If the 4.0.2 already have EDIT feature, when as user can expect having this is app?

@Gargron *Such* a great album. It's one of the best things Dev's ever done. And Nightwork is, too.  I think it's glorious that there's now a Mastodon server operated by people who used to work for Twitter (macaw.social). I could have never imagined it when I started in 2016.

@Gargron Just followed @streamofron the admin for #Mastodon server (macaw.social) operated by people who used to work for the bird site #NewHere #TwitterMigration #Mastodon #TwitterRefugee @Gargron I joined Mastodon about 3 weeks ago and could not upload photos to posts via the iOS app (tried several times). 502 server error received. I almost gave up posting on the platform. In the end another user told me about a 3rd party app today, through which I could post picture posts to Mastodon without a problem 🙌 Is there an issue with uploading photos to posts on the iOS app? If so it would be great if this could be looked at, to not deter new users from starting posting. Thanks! I'm happy to say that I've now onboarded another iOS developer for our app, and we are set on making another update to the app as soon as possible. I've also onboarded the first batch of new moderators for this server.

@Gargron it would be great though, if you could educate your new moderators in basic social concepts and sociological principles — BEFORE you allow them to remove content that only straight Endo CIS white males without understanding would consider violations! @Gargron would it be possible to please include the direct message section on the Mastodon app? Having been here since 2016, I can tell you there is definitely no such thing as a consensus on usage of content warnings on the fediverse. It's a decentralized network that doesn't belong to any one party, so by definition there is no single culture on it. Different corners have different expectations and customs.

@Gargron @mattblaze ... the downside of that seems to be, people from all over the fediverse feel like they are justified in harassing newcomers who violate their (narrow, single-cultural) expectations... instead of blocking and moving on Thanks to the DigitalOcean team, the Mastodon image on their marketplace has been updated to the latest stable version (3.5.3).  @Gargron I had no idea it was available on Marketplace. Previously, I was using Mastodon through Cloudron. There are currently some hiccups with the official iOS app's push notification service, I am investigating. It has never seen so much activity before. #devops

@Gargron If it's any consolation, Twitter IOS notifications aren't working properly either. Hey! Spent all day (technically night) fixing delayed feeds on mastodon.social and mastodon.online, both are back to normal now, I had to add more capacity. There's just so much more activity during peak hours, even with closed registrations! #devops

That's pretty cool.

I’m really happy to be part of this soc.med. adventure; so far it feels like recovering after a dark night full of nightmares, now sitting near a fire with the nicest magazine ever, and talking to & with nice people in the meantime. Thanks for your work and for being a visionaire some how.   That is amazing! Massive props to everyone involved in getting the project this far, running servers, etc! :D Work aside, the new Devin Townsend album #Lightwork came out two days ago, so I've been listening to that a lot.

@Gargron Was feeling lost when I joined Mastodon, didn't really know what I was doing here. Now I've found out the founder is a Devin fan. Faith restored. @Gargron ah man, it’s so awesome that you’re into his music as well. One of my favourite musicians and been listening to this as well. Love it. I've changed quite a few parts on joinmastodon.org/servers today in response to the feedback from the past week. In detail: You can now filter by region, type of legal entity, and sign-up speed. Added note about why the topics filter exists. Changed tagline. "Get on waitlist" has become "Apply for an account" for servers that manually review new sign-ups. Removed total user count from cards.

I suspect that having to choose an instance is still preventing many people from joining. What about allowing a simplified sign-up procedure for beginners that do not care about instances? Something like allowing to create an account on a random general server would simplify the process for beginners. Pictures and videos should now be loading fast again on mastodon.social. The load balancer was hitting the limits of its hardware too so I had to upgrade it #devops

Trying to get 4 going took a bit of work, but I've got it working and a guide for new people @Gargron I hope 4.0 can spread to more servers soon so that people have an easy way to "Invite people".

I don't think Mastodon or the fediverse has ever received this much attention before. It's a great opportunity for people to finally see that social media can be done differently, that it can be a protocol not under control of any single company.

@Gargron this is exactly what we’ve been looking for .. im going to go back on Twitter tomorrow & thank Elon the rwnj trillionaire @Gargron yes - even though I used to work for an organisation specialising in open source, I hadn't heard of Mastodon until all the twit related publicity. Welcoming @zeitschlag to our iOS app team! Development of the official Mastodon app that has stalled for a bit will now continue and hopefully we'll have a new update for you soon.
