 199,430 is the number of new users across different Mastodon servers since October 27, along with 437 new servers. This bring last day's total to 608,837 active users, which is without precedent the highest it's ever been for Mastodon and the fediverse. From 8 cores to 36 cores processing power, let's see how the new database server holds up. Hopefully everything will be much faster from now on, but it should also give me a bit more room to scale horizontally.

@Gargron 👍 Nice to know what might be just ahead of ourselves mid- to long-term. And since mastodon.social keeps lagging occasionally: if the DB server turns out to be the culprit, have you considered or even tried using a CockroachDB cluster as a drop-in replacement for PostgreSQL? Can you think of any obstacles? @Gargron I see you're using Hetzner servers. When ordering new ones please take a look at their RX series (with ARM64 processors). These are real, 80 cores, beasts with outstanding performance. mastodon.social has once again caught up with real-time. I haven't received the new machine for the database yet (seems like the technical issues unfortunately overlapped with some bank holidays; hopefully tomorrow) but I managed to find a way to optimize some code that seems to have helped. Thank you for being patient, and again, I'm really sorry you couldn't experience Mastodon at its best the past few days on here.

@Gargron Still getting a lot of 502s and timeouts during peak hours at the moment on mastodon.online. @Gargron Thanks for doing this. It is great that we have a platform that doesn’t have a maniacal billionaire at the helm. I have ordered a more powerful machine for our database server from Hetzner last evening, but they still haven't provisioned it. It seems we're doomed to experience these processing delays until I can get my hands on more hardware. Sorry!

Should it be instantaneous? @Gargron The past few days have extracted a heavy toll from me. @Gargron Hello, a round of applause for your hard work! I´m looking for info on where to donate? Uploads may appear to not be working on mastodon.social as of right now because the processing queue is delayed by 12 minutes. The file does get uploaded but the processing happens only 12 minutes later. The delay is caused by the workload of restoring home feeds of people who've come back after a long absence.

@Gargron I’m just checking out mastodon. Does mastodon have a way to sustain the costs if there is a significant migration from Twitter? If there’s a good article on this you can point me to I don’t expect you to give me a whole answer here but I’m curious.  I am feeling a pickup in people returning to their accounts (and asking for help with login).

@Gargron ...same here. I'm pretty sure I found my account I created back in 2016. However, I can't remember which e-mail address I used. Is there a way to recover from this situation? Would love to use my 2016 account...  @Gargron Did the old public profile page go away? The one that prominently featured my social links and featured hashtags?
