@Gargron I didn't even know about this as of about 5 days ago, and now this lovely haj keeps showing up everywhere... In my opinion there's nothing you can't do with #ActivityPub. You want DIDs? You could do DIDs. You want "curation and moderation" to be a separate layer? You can do that. You want "big world" networking? You can add that. Do not confuse what implementers have chosen to do so far with what the protocol is capable of. #ATP

@Gargron Hello Eugen. Are there any plans to add E2E encryption and private messaging? I guess not.

@Gargron I have the same Pro-Ject turntable. I purchased it years ago and I wanted to upgrade the cartridge to the 2M blue, but I never did.

@Gargron i dont understand why companies like thermaltake think putting fans up against glass is going to do anything When a traditional social media site shuts down (G+, app.net) your entire social graph is scattered to the wind - to other proprietary systems that don't interoperate. When a Mastodon server shuts down, you just import your follows list into a new account.

I don't understand why people seem to expect that if they sign up here they must get famous instantly or it's a failure of the platform. Did you not spend years growing your network on Twitter?

@Gargron I have roughly half the followers here as I do on Twitter (it's taken me years to get to 53 there), but I think some of them are bots. No complaints on that end! @Gargron I don't know how to social. I am here to see cool stuff and cool people's projects. I've updated mastodon.social and mastodon.online to the latest code in the main branch. You can follow hashtags, translate posts, and the UI is the same for logged in and logged out users (though keep in mind the logged out version is not entirely complete).

Mastodon's database size can often be reduced either through Postgres' VACUUM command or the pg_repack extension, the latter usually being more effective as a lot of the size is in index bloat which VACUUM does not touch. Mind that I do not recommend running VACUUM FULL unless you absolutely need to reclaim disk space on the system. Speaking of vacuuming, the upcoming version of Mastodon will provide admins with the option to define a content retention policy that will evict all remote posts past a defined date. A harsh, but most effective way to keep the database (and by extension, media cache) to a constant size, as far as activity by local users allows. @Gargron Modern Postgres supports autovacuum. Admins shouldn't need to do that. @Gargron About index bloat, that could also be solved with a The new "select all results matching search" function (in the main branch) is a blessing for dealing with spammers in Mastodon... @Gargron The new joinmastodon.org website delivered by @oakstudios is live (has been for a little while, actually, but I've been working on it still). I think it's the best it's ever been. Check out the branding and about pages too!

@Gargron @oakstudios On a browser with #uBlockOrigin installed, I click link, tab opens, tab instantly closes. @Gargron It's good timing! There may be another Elon-triggered influx of users soon.
