Uploads may appear to not be working on mastodon.social as of right now because the processing queue is delayed by 12 minutes. The file does get uploaded but the processing happens only 12 minutes later. The delay is caused by the workload of restoring home feeds of people who've come back after a long absence.

@Gargron
Is this home feed restoration something that is standard on mastodon software or is a process unique to .social?

@Gargron thanks for all your hard work! I'm glad there's a real alternative to Twitter. πŸ’ͺ

@Gargron Thx, I alone may have uploaded images 20 times :patcat:

@Gargron Thanks for all your work on this. I can't imagine how much work you and your team will be putting in as the mass exodus of the #twittermigration goes on.

@Gargron ohhhh, i was wondering why images were very slow to load

@Gargron : so this should only be temporary ? :)

@Gargron how does it feel having a massive influx of people flocking back here again

@Gargron Thanks, good luck. What kind of infrastructure is needed to run an instance as big as this? And how can we support? :)

@Gargron what's the expected size limits (length, MB) for video in posts? Thanks!

@Gargron -- There's a very large caribou herd of Twitter users headed your way. Surprised it's only a 12 minute delay. When they discover that FireFox supports Mastodon with full security and no special downloads, that can only get worse.

@Gargron App seems pretty nice despite the current 'influx lag'. πŸ˜ƒ

Looking forward to exploring it more!

@Gargron talking about signing up, last night after installing the app I waited forever for the confirmation email. Even after pressing resend button several time nothing happened. Only this morning after landing app and pressing the resend button again did i finally get the confirmation email. Suggests there's a glitch in the system which needs looking at.

@Gargron NOT being a jerk here, but is this intrinsic to the way Mastodon (archives?) the home feeds? Or do you mean "refreshing" the home feeds of those who haven't visited in awhile.

Eugen Rochko

@jann Home feeds are stored in memory instead of on disk. But we only store them for active users. When you return after a long absence, we have to recreate your home feed.

@Gargron Hi. I'm liking the fediverse. I get a Oops, an unexpected error occurred when I try to upload pictures or videos. Is this an user error πŸ˜‚
