Our boy Jacques is zonked out post supper. Took my spot on the couch, but is doing it with style. OpenAI stealing Scarlett’s voice for their new product after being told “no” is so perfectly on-brand, it’s almost painful. https://www.npr.org/2024/05/20/1252495087/openai-pulls-ai-voice-that-was-compared-to-scarlett-johansson-in-the-movie-her Saw some text online that made me want to turn it into signage. What good are graphic design skills if you can't have a little fun with them.😜

@Javier aren't we ambush predators and trappers, necessarily, by nature? Like, the whole outlast predator thing never made much sense to me, because it's such a poor cost to benefit ratio, and also so much more effort than ambush and trapping, which would have likely come to early humans pretty easily, given that who we evolved from was already socially cooperative - so as soon as we mutated for high cortical growth, we'd probably be planning ambushes, if not even before then? Conjecture though Seriously pissed about this. Offering $10,000 in seed funding for a Deviant Art alternative built on ActivityPub. Q&A below or email your pitch to info@moth.social. https://slate.com/technology/2024/05/deviantart-what-happened-ai-decline-lawsuit-stability.html

@bart Not surprising, especially since DA tried to not opt out with AI scanning the art for their "Art" https://phanpy.social is a pretty incredible Mastodon client. Entirely web based, looks great on mobile and desktop, you can configure your shortcuts that appear above or below the river of news. Some screenshots from my own account: good notifications page, different kinds of toots get a different status, plus Boosts are shown in their own carousel. I've heard one developer made all this, it's pretty incredible.

@mathowie The one feature that keeps me using Mona for iOS is putting photo captions into the Alt Text field so I don't have to copy and paste manually. But otherwise phanpy.social is the web app I can use anywhere, even in VR. Imagine if we had to hunt for food like our ancestors. I don’t know if I could hit a breakfast taco with a spear.

They're more afraid of you then you are of them. If the Taco fixes their eyes on you wave your arms in the air and scream, it will show dominance. I took a new (to me) lens to San Francisco, the Canon FD 50mm/1.4, which I haven't had a chance to test before going (which I in hindsight realized was not very wise). I shot 4 rolls of film on the trip. Eagerly awaiting the scans to come back from the lab...

This is pretty good. Can The Lord of the Rings Ever be Remastered?

@tvaziri That B&W preview is amazing. In monochrome those movies would look like a twelve hour Smiths music video directed by Anton Corbijn and I am totally into that Back home after a very busy week in San Francisco. I spoke with @caseynewton, @mmasnick, @harrymccracken, @laurengoode, @chrismessina, @Markoff and so many others. In an age where the old web is gradually getting killed off by AI, there is still hope for the future in the shape of the fediverse.

@Gargron @caseynewton @mmasnick @harrymccracken @laurengoode @chrismessina @Markoff what makes you say that? Sorry for my question I don't have context, but I very much want good news about the old internet. I run my own server(s) and hand code. If people are pushing for more of that, I want to hear about it. Thanks! @Gargron @caseynewton @mmasnick @harrymccracken @laurengoode @chrismessina @Markoff Ooh that is a great set of folks! You certainly got a very skewed impression of our strange country. Tried looking up the average height of one story of a building, in the current era of the internet. I wonder if this is what having a stroke feels like. The developer behind Delta has been threatened with legal action by Adobe, forcing the game emulator to change its icon. i see a lot of people making fun of the new Apple goggles, but if it allows me to finally fuck an Excel file, there's no amount i won't spend

@schratze @schratze I use a custom Debian install and it basically doesn't work but on the other hand there's no notification popups Our commitment to the fediverse is here to stay. Today, we launched our new Mastodon instance. It will ensure a privacy-focused space to engage with and get the latest from our Commissioners, departments, and the official voices of the Commission. We want to thank @Mastodon for stewarding us and helping us make this possible. Fostering European digital players is vital to our strategy for a stronger #DigitalEU. This is a unique opportunity to grow the community even more. Let's get there!

@EUCommission @Mastodon Lovely, next thing is to support actual privacy by supporting e2e encryption without any doubt. |
@molly0xfff The thing is there is this software called rewind and I really like it.
@molly0xfff @MaZderMind das kam jetzt so oft durch die verschiedenen News Portale, dass ich meine letzte Windowsbastion — die Gamingkiste — auch mal testweise auf Ubuntu umziehe. Danke für den Anstoß 😁

... the only "reason" they are "forced" to do this, is because they are too incompetent to design + create a working simple search feature 😏🫣
Proof: "Desktop users will swear they've been in situations where they had to desperately search through emails, browser histories, and file folders trying to find that one thing they vaguely remember seeing or working on a few days prior. It's frustrating, but Microsoft may have cracked this problem... "
