As warned, Reddit has taken a bundle of money from "Open"AI and will use it to further monetize what you -- and the volunteers who moderate it all -- contributed for free. It's the norm now, and particularly slimy in this case. https://www.theverge.com/2024/5/16/24158529/reddit-openai-chatgpt-api-access-advertising @dangillmor Isn't that the only way social media sites can make money ... to somehow monetize what users contribute? I am not sure how this is any different or more slimey than any other monetization.

@tarajdactyl That pun was so bad, the audience is throwing tomatoes at you. (Sun-dried, of course.) @tarajdactyl OY. *sigh* I guess you gotta keep currant on these things? Be the sultana of puns?

Hatching some plans with the man, the myth, the legend... @Gargron! Lots of great stuff in the works for the open, social web in 2024 and beyond! Great to meet @Gargron, @andypiper and many other #Fediverse and #Mastodon enthusiasts in SF. Thanks to @mike and @Flipboard for holding the social event!

@frozencanuck @Gargron @andypiper @mike @Flipboard So amazing to see these wonderful people together - experiencing real FOMO 😁 @frozencanuck @frozencanuck @Gargron @andypiper @mike @Flipboard I love Mastodon, but the standard Android client, which is likely the most used, continues to have awful behavior when you click on the MORE ribbon to fetch the latest posts. It jumps to the top instead of leaving the pointer on the last read post. Then you have to scroll down to try and find your place. PLEASE FIX THIS.

The most notorious example for me is Spanish cinema, it’s like they’re rapid-fire whispering, then suddenly they burst out screaming. No middle ground. And just what the hell are film sound editors and mixers in Spain smoking, to think that this is the proper way to mix a film’s audio? @MrLovenstein So true. Fuck you #youtube. You're at least as bad as the worst TV show for audio balance. Several of the major social media platforms - Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Twitter - have effectively declared war on linking to things and I absolutely hate it "Link in my bio" / "Link in thread" / "Link in first comment"... or increasingly no link at all, just an unsourced screenshot of a page

@simon Email too. The more links in your email the more likely they are to put it in a spam folder. About an hour ago, the sky turned blood red over Bavaria, Germany. It's the first time I've ever seen an #Aurora in my life. It was so bright to be easily visible with the naked eye. An absolutely jawdropping experience. 🖖😳✨

@ProjectPhysX @tagesschau @DLR @dlr_next @stim3on I took this one 20 mins ago! Canon 6d I continue to be fascinated by the fact that when Jack Dorsey looks back at his time at Twitter, his only regret is that it was technically possible for him to ban the Nazis so people nagged him to do so. So now his ideal social network is one where the moderators can’t ban Nazis. @carnage4life I'm wondering if this is why Twitter was always bad at coming with useful features themselves. Their overall concept of reality was off. @carnage4life Must be great to be totally insulated from the tiniest consequences of all of your decisions. Utterly incapable of reflection and learning. Completely surrounded by people who give you endless respect, praise, and never criticism. Absolutely not a recipe for uncaring idealogues, convinced they're right in all respects.

This interview is seriously whacked out, both the questions and Dorsey’s bizarre answers. He has “a strategy for ending censorship forever!” lol https://www.piratewires.com/p/interview-with-jack-dorsey-mike-solana |
@Gargron @mike oh wow, he's a big boy! I thought the plushie was much smaller than that!
@Gargron @mike a good one :)
what did he play?
@Gargron @mike the Plushtodon should have its own Mastdon account
