@JustMeDevin omg congrats! Well deserved, you may melt! 🙌

Quentin Zervaas

@JustMeDevin ooh. Now I’m desperate to know if the Apple logo lights up like they previously did.

The only feeling I have about starship is dread.

They want to use that to launch batches of HUNDREDS of Starlinks at once. And guess where all those Starlinks will end up? The pieces that don't make it to the ground will end up in our upper atmosphere, screwing up the stratosphere, the ozone layer, who knows what else because SpaceX isn't required to do any environmental assessments of this.

Shit. Maybe a good time to post this essay I wrote yet again: theconversation.com/an-astrono

@sundogplanets What if we had legislation on the books that NASA or the FAA or the EPA had to do an environmental assessment themselves before they could grant approval? And that it had to be rigorous, complete and public? And that specific enviro standards had to be met before approval could be granted?

Muting this thread now because the mansplaining ratio has gotten way too high!

And screwing up the view for ground based astronomers.

👋 If you can see this toot you are on the #Fediverse enjoying #BetterSocialMedia

How flippin' awesome is that!?

In one or two sentences, tell me one thing that stands out for you personally, one of the reasons you enjoy being here.

And if you're ok with me using your answer in promotional material to get more people here, add the tag #TellEveryone 📢

@jaz One thing I don't see mentioned a lot is how it's not constantly trying to steal my attention and take up more of my time. It's not trying to hook me.

All the big social media companies (even LinkedIn) will start making up new things to send you notifications like "here's what you missed" or whatever to make you open their app

@jaz
I feel comfortable to show my real #nerd self. No ads. Only 2 or 3 irritants in 10 months. #Bloomscrolling

My spouse spoils Doots by putting his food dish in the kitchen window so he can sort of dine al fresco and watch the birdies. 💀 :smug:

Doots, a one-eyed Lynx Point Siamese cat, standing on the kitchen windowsill looking cranky. His mouth is partially open, and he looks like he is saying, “Mother, where is my food?! *Father* puts my food in the window, why won’t you? Sometimes the service around here is abysmal!”

Looking for a dev to help lead Mammoth. Needs passion for user experience & fedi, ideally has played a key role in end user app already. Codebase is in Swift + UIKit but we are flexible, want to talk to visionary devs. $5,000/mo, fully open source, AGPL. Can be a (major!) side hustle. HMU at bdecrem on g mail or bartdecrem on discord.

@bart

Is a High School student entering summer break OK for you?

I have my own web framework, built multiple UIs(aesthetic focused / ux focused), I have my own decentralized protocol that does most except activitypub does. Have activitypub experience. Beginner knowledge in Swift but a fast learner. I can send my CV if you want.

Dennis Nunes

@bart I sent you an email on g mail, let me know if you received it.

@bart Hi Bart, opportunity sounds great! Just emailed you on both gmail and theblvd

I should be able to follow #Cara users from my Mastodon account. You can't convince me to make yet another account in a yet another silo, but I'd love to see and share more art in my home feed. Anyone have a connection to their team? Would love to chat about the #fediverse.

@Gargron 💯. An artist I follow and patronize has dumped Instagram for Cara and so now I have to run yet another app that's not really aimed at me since I'm not really an artist.

1 day to go 🗳️ 🇪🇺

In just one day, and over the following three days, the largest transnational elections in the world will take place.

This week #UseYourVote in the European elections.

@Gargron It looks like you got a shot of milkweed at the base of the tree. It’s a very important part of the ecosystem that supports the Monarch butterfly. A lot of folks in California are growing it in gardens as a conservation effort. We currently have 3 pupae in our front yard (we’ll have several dozens by the end of summer).

@Gargron Love Big Basin! The Forest of Nisene Marks in Aptos is also a great location for beautiful pictures.

The dog next door - Rohan really wants to say "Hi" and get a nice rub as a greeting. Cookies are a bonus, if you have one.

#dogsofmastodon

A large dog sticks his head through a square opening in a lattice fence. The dog has a mostly black head with brown spots above his eyes, a white stripe down the centre of the head that wraps around the nose. He has big brown paws with white toes at the tip. His deep, brown eyes are looking longingly at the camera.

I’ve got a new camera! Pentax KX. Unlike the Canon Ae-1 Program, it’s fully mechanical. Everything seems to be in working order, except the focusing ring being misaligned and rotating past infinity.

@Gargron my first was an AE-1, and I also got a K-1000 for that very reason as well. Fully mechanical=long exposure beast

Derek Brauders

@Gargron apologies for saying this, but does that mean " To infinity, and beyond".

On another note, my second slr was a Pentax ME Super. Lovely camera.

A large ship followed by a smaller vessel are leaving the frame. Behind them, green land covered in low hanging clouds, tinted purple by the setting sun. One distant star is already visible in the sky.
