The one thing that bothers me is how many votes AFD is getting where I live 😕 That’s the people I must presume I see on the street every day #btw21 #noafd

It's frustrating how cryptocurrency has poisoned all conversation about decentralization.

@Gargron @hypolite what I mean is there isn't much decentralized about "money". Money is ALWAYS centrally controlled, without such, Price Discovery mechanisms (among else) collapse..... whether that central control is a more traditional institutional order, such as the BIS/Central Banking structure, or something more "nu age" such as "A.I." is of little significance to the ultimate end.

That anything but "chaotic"/"free running" structure(s) exist is arguably one of the largest benefits of the open ledger implementations. The centralization of control isn't even hidden and is open for all to see and actively observe. BitCoin had well openly bit the dust in these regards by 2013 when a single entity could be seen to yield 5%+ of the total volume control.
"Dark DAO" vulnerabilities and exploits, mass proliferation of chipset vulnerabilities that can work around encryption, the underlying natures of HFT and things like "spoofie", the list goes on, have only served to compound and solidify the existence of the "elephant in the room".

That there's not a single point failure node to bring it all to a stop, down, or render the faith of participants a non-sequitur (shy of something like a massive EMP); sure, it's arguably "decentralized" in such limited scope regard. However, such scope doesn't at all speak to the central control nature. Perhaps a more positive (if not also absurd) outlook, call IT GORT on the beat.

Put myself into a bit of a corner by naming the streaming API event for new post "update" 5 years ago...

The Mastodon for #iOS TestFlight version now has multi-account login. The TestFlight invite on our Patreon still works! Though the feature will soon be available in the public release.

narF 🎲

@Gargron Does the app support only Mastodon or does it also support other fediverse things like pleroma or Pixelfed?
(It's not a feature request. Just a question)

Brayd :mastodon: :vegan:

@Gargron off topic question, but is the count of how many people faved a toot instance wise or global? Because I always just see my own fav (count 1), when favoriting a toot, but I doubt that I’m the only person using this, when posts have 10+ comments. 😅

Eugen Rochko

Question... How does Tor work on #iOS? Is every app responsible for implementing it separately? Asking because Mastodon for iOS got a 1-star review for someone because they couldn't login to an .onion address server and I'm not entirely sure what to think of that.

@Gargron the Tor browser was pulled from the App Store. I keep getting a warning every time I update all my apps. I still have the app on my iPhone.

Anthony Sorace

@Gargron Generally, yes, each has to do it itself, if you want it all done on-device (as opposed to setting up a WiFi gateway or the like).

Even after looking at the product page I'm not sure what the selling point of iPhone 13 is vs the 12

the thoughtful frog

@Gargron The prices might be less than an equivalent Samsung?

TheOPtimal

@Gargron Slightly smaller notch, a singular camera moved. That's it

Bob

@Gargron #AppleEvent I guess if you have an old iPhone it may make sense but to update from a 12 is kinda stupid. So now Apple thinks you are guilty until proven innocent of being a pedophile and will break the security of the phone even more by scanning everyone’s pictures on their phone that they think they own. Disgusting and I can’t believe there’s that many sick people in the world to justify anything of the sort.

@Gargron I wonder why they won't disclose their proprietary "addon" code.

I assume it's either shitty or stolen, perhaps even both?

@Gargron Stuff like that is why I'm not there anymore. 😒

How many words can a person learn in a day and actually remember? Is there a limit?

Show previous comments
Григорий Клюшников

I don't think there's any real hard limit, but it depends on the context and how many times you hear a word. It's kind of like it was with phone numbers before phones had contact lists, if you call someone often enough, you only look up their number first five times or so. Or like it is with getting around an unfamiliar city. Or board games. Memory seems to be working the same way regardless of the data type.

Fusterclucker

@Gargron This depends on several factors. How are you learning the words? (Anki is my favorite tool for this). How much time a day are you devoting to studying? Are you getting good quality sleep m(as sleep is when the things you studied yesterday are moved to long term memory).

My general experience with learning Mandarin was that ~40 words a day was a pretty rough go but possible, but 20 words was easy.

James Richardson

@Gargron 7. I have no evidence or study to back this up, but that is the answer.

Justin Bridouz

@Gargron not too Bad the first time. Getting better and better with several listening sessions.

Luís de Sousa

@Gargron Listening to it as I write. It is not bad, but not really better than what they recorded in recent years. They don't take much risks and have become somewhat predictable. Early reviews were very positive sending the album among the 2021 top 10. I believe that is why it got so much attention. However, it already left that tier and will only sink further in the rank.

Eugen Rochko

But why did they name them super follows

Show previous comments
Ali ahmed

@Gargron hello do you have any idea on cryptocurrency

Deadly Headshot

@Gargron Is it Super follows for the Nintendo users and Mega follows for the Sega ones?

Terci

@Gargron ripping off "super likes" from tinder i bet

Eugen Rochko

Looks like IKEA discontinued the LED cabinet lights that actually produced a decent quality light 😦

I tried getting the strip version of the same series (LEDBERG) but it's a totally different color and much weaker than the discontinued spot lights

@Gargron
I recently busted out some old colored DIODER lights I bought ages ago, and I have no idea what I was thinking. They are rubbish.

Eugen Rochko

If anyone's tried the VAXMYRA spot lights (which seems to be the replacement they have for LEDBERG) can you tell me if they have the same light temperature at least?

Shaun Ruigrok :they_them: 🌈♾️

@Gargron LEDBERG is just LED light strips, not spotlights? OMLOPP was the LED cabinet spotlights I think?

Next #iOS app milestones are multi-account login and iPad support (don’t ask me to what I’ll change the “for iPhone” part of the app name, I don’t know)

@Gargron thanks man, appreciate the effort so far 💪

Ankit

@Gargron I've been using it on M1 Mac as well. Because of iPhone, the app window is very small, I hope that will be better once it's compatible with iPad 🙂

Android (Gboard) is pretty good with English. Russian tho... It annoys me to no end that it doesn't know half the forms of many commonly used words. Also had to teach it to swear.

haha! i missed that spelling difference! 😁

So I need to translate "What's new" into every language of the App Store page on every app update? Starting to understand why people go for "Bugfixes and improvements" now...

@Gargron The Apple app store is a quasi-monopoly. Epic is right.

zacwest

@Gargron Apple is fine with copy/pasting English notes across all the translations you support.
