@Gargron omg yes please! I have an entire setup I made just to notify me of new accounts via pushover. Webhooks would be amazing here. @Gargron hey, is this shipped? are there docs? I'd love to build on top of this (thinking about a Mastodon webhook --> Discord bot) @Gargron is this for admin only, currently i am looking for to add webhook to be get notified when someone mentioned me. i did'n see any option in the Mastodon, and here i have seen your this post, do you have any idea how i can achieve this, you have raised PR for this but that isnt in the main yet. Feel like I'm an outlier in not caring how people pronounce my name. Any variant of the same root will do. I've been Eugen, Eugene, Евгений, Женя, Eugenio (jokingly), Eugène...

Agree with others that this is pretty typical for an European, especially if you or someone in your social circle works with international people
[DATA EXPUNGED]
Wanted to re-watch the pledge-exclusive videos from the making of the Casualties of Cool album, but looks like PledgeMusic went under in the meantime, and I cannot find any mirrors. That is sad! @Gargron, I have no idea what you're talking about, but you can try your luck on Russian VK.com/video. Many people use it as an analogue of YouTube and upload other people's videos. BTW, now you don't need an account to search for videos or browse public pages, but without an account you can not disable safe search.

What online social trend-surfer wouldn't be enthralled to abandon "eSports" for "jeu video de competition"? (Oh, did I say "online social trend-surfer"? I meant "individu de mode de comportement branché sur l'Internet.") (Oh, did I say "Internet"? I meant "monde compilé en réseau informatique dans l'abstrait.") (How every step enriches and enlivens me.) @Gargron Sounds like what's happening in Quebec, Canada. I've heard a few say that if people in Quebec dislike English so much, they should move to France. Sounds like they'd be in good company. I have spent way too much time getting webpack to convert SVG icons into PNGs automatically...

@Gargron What didn't you like? I thought child Leia was a bit of an exaggeration of what a know-it-all-kid would be like, but otherwise really liked the first two parts. I enjoyed it. They're staging the story for the journey to come. In Jedi history this point in time is probably their lowest. They fell from power and fell hard. The story so far really gets that message across. Can't wait to see where they take it. I was on @ummjackson's new podcast #Griftonomics talking about Mastodon. Thanks for the invite! @Gargron @ummjackson

Developing Mastodon, I strive to use terminology that is familiar to as many people as possible so as to not put up unnecessary barriers in understanding. For this reason I am happy that we went away from calling posts "toots". It has always been a point of friction for people. Not that I dislike branding, quite the opposite, but in my experience receiving feedback over half a decade, it had a negative effect on the platform for little benefit.

One of the top frustrating things about having a growing audience is that you can not rely on any shared or historic knowledge. Everything has to be said with the assumption that the reader has not seen a single other word from you and knows nothing about you. Every thought or announcement has to inline all the fundamentals.

@Gargron Which sadly, ends up leading to putting off people who read it and have been around for a while, and go, "But why do you keep saying the same things... I wish you'd not repeat well known stuff." @Gargron Trading stocks/crypto has been a lot easier ever since I got in contact with Evelyn R. Greetings, @Gargron (Eugen)! I agree withe your perceptive comment. Personally find that the 500 character limit adds to my challenge when I write, assuming a reader has never read anything I have posted. Perhaps brevity is not one of my strengths! :shrug: Cordially, David Dickerson

@Gargron I participate in many film fest based communities, and yes. You can make one about nearly anything and send it to many film fests. Strad Style is proof positive. My film with an Indian production house is India and Eastern Europe auteur art that gets pop praise in Italy and is Arab Asian sensation. It’s Australian Indie and New York Jazz cult. The key is to win 7 awards minimum before distribution and find a good one. Our search index over here got out of sync a few weeks ago. It was the first time I've needed to re-import data into it in a long time. The command estimated a runtime of over 30 days to complete. So I've been working on optimizing the command.

Somebody gave Mastodon's official iOS app a 1-star review on the App Store because "there are too many Taiwan independence" [sic, translation]. That's a first! Also, Taiwan is a country.

Language selection is now available in the Mastodon web app. Make sure your posts are seen by people who understand them! Supports quickly finding the right language with fuzzy search and remembers your most frequently selected languages.

@Gargron is there a way to select more than one language? I'm writing German + English on one account , but if i choose one, people who filter, either don't see stuff meant for the german writing community or or the worldwide art community on my server.

Just realized "Get started" and "Sign in" on the first screen of the iOS app got translated into "First steps" and "Sign up" in German which explains why I've been getting complaints that there's no way to sign in to an existing account 🤦♂️

@Gargron You should not waste so much time on iOS development. I also used Xcode and Apple is one huge marketing hoodwink and a huge waste of money. @Gargron Hi! I think it would be best if the app(s) did not try to translate anything if people do not ask for translation. The Mastodon app is still completely in Finnish for Nordic countries. Is the goal to attract Twitter users? If so, I think the sign up/in needs to be way more simple and mirror what we see when signing up/in on a computer. Also there being several apps for Mastodon creates hesitation and confusion for new users. I don't use any app for Mastodon because of this. 😔 @Gargron That's not the only problem with the app. When i signed up via app, the Mastodon Social server was not in the list. It can only be chosen by signing up via website. I think that's a strange limitation. All possible servers should also be available via app signing up. |
@Gargron :birdroll:
@Gargron birds are adorable 😍
Likely watching its reflection in the camera lens. Wonder if this type of bird recognizes itself, or sees a companion. Only very few animals have an 'image of self'. Think parrots are among them.
