Added GPS coordinates to every day in the log :).
We had the coordinates for the 52-day sail from Japan to Canada in a text file on 100r.co. Publishing them in the book is a good way to preserve that data.

DIY'ing it is gonna be costly, but can't imagine what it'd cost if I asked an upholsterer. I know where to get the foam, still unsure on fabric. Looking at fabric samples online reminds me of that bit in Lost in Translation when his wife sends him different carpet samples by mail to choose from, and that they ALL LOOK THE SAME. Fabric names are freakin hilarious. 'Teddy bear truffle', 'lavish storm'....'ottawa sand'.

@rek going in person to some kind of fabric/sewing/etc shop is something i'd recommend highly if you can. there are discount bulk/factory reject fabric places that are generally the best deal in that space if you can find one local; online definitely feels like a crapshoot in terms of like > surprise! you hate some aspect of the feel or appearance of the fabric you just bought 20 meters of but i appreciate that may be difficult from pino~ Dev & I spent an hour going through strings of christmas lights trying to find out why half of the string wasn't lit. Checked fuse, was good. Evidently, corrosion was the culprit. Had to sacrifice a string and took 6 bulbs from it so the other one would work. The metal connections in the dead ones had all turned to dust. Ah, boatssss, salt everywhereeee π ... Now we're down one string of lights, but at least Pino is well-lit and looking awesome ^____^ @rek corrosion kills my electronics just living in the Sydney climate. Iβve been looking into these special bags and containers that are meant to control humidity for longer term storage. though if you can get your hands on satchels of silica gel putting a few of them in a zip lock bag with your electronics may do the trick @rek All the plastic and electronics garbage from 2 sets of broken lights after only one year.. I put all of the Ilken(Solresol) poems/songs featured in the story on a staff. Here's an example: fadomisi doremi sisolfasol, to mean, "the desert is loud". Desert: fadomisi Replacing a jacket zipper for the first time. The teeth of the zipper were so worn at one end they couldn't bite, and the coat zipper would keep opening from the bottom. Did one side, now doing the other. The other side is a bit tougher cause there's more layers. The stitching it strong but isn't super clean cause I have to do it by hand(too many layers for the sewing machine). I learned a few things while trying to do this fix. For instance, there are many ways that zippers fail. It's not always necessary to replace the whole thing. Sometimes a new zipper slider or bottom stop is enough to fix a coat opening from the bottom. It's possible to buy parts separately or to get a kit. I had to replace the whole thing because the teeth were too badly worn. Hardest bit was getting the old stitches out to get the zipper off (was very well put together). Just released the list of changes and updates to the Hundred Rabbits projects for October 2023. Made drawn maps of our summer sailing in the Salish Sea. Previously, we had a messy live map with so much overlap that it was unreadable. Summer 2021, 2022, and 2023. Corrected 2021. I didn't keep a logbook that year (bad Rek!) and it seems like I forgot we'd been to SaltSpring(where we met Bosun Bird for the first time) and to Vancouver :>. Started uploading some pages. Haven't had a ton of time to work on these, but I'm happy with it so far :D (3/17 pages). Shading with pencils, off the computer, is a ton of fun, but it'd be a bit easier if the frames werent so small (im working on 8.5/11in, paper, with the page taking up the entire height/width). May do fewer frames per sheet next time so I can get in more detail. Finished and uploaded page 4/17 :> Some sneaky action. Sequence up to date: https://kokorobot.ca/site/night_terror.html Looks like the otters loved us not being home. Two of them were hopping on and off of the deck all night. Both of us couldn't sleep so we got up every hour to chase them off (they're rly very persistent).

T'was a long time coming, but I spent time optimizing my website. It has fewer lines of CSS. I spent a lot of time cleaning up the code overall. Feels good :cooldog:

@rek on a phone, every page you open, the screen is fully filled with the navigation. Maybe you could make it a bit smaller? @rek you serve as an inspiration for all the rest of us who look out the window dreaming of the day that we took update and optimize our own websites.. also site looks great @rek Devine: "I'm going to lie down here, and listen to a podcast." Me: "Oh really now? Lying down?" *10 minutes later* Devine is asleep, headphones on and all. :judging: Thousand Rooms now has a Portuguese(Brazil) version! Thank you Yuri Nikolai Martinez Laskowski for the translation. It really sucks to have to wrestle with LaTex errors when trying to generate a PDF with Pandoc after a system update Apparently no two Tex binaries play well together. So whatever was installed is causing trouble with what was already on my machine (I *think* this is what this kerfuffle is about). I've got other issues too, tho, I am figuring it out, but it's a such a pain. I just wanna work on my book dammit :angy: Note that using LaTex/Pandoc is usually pretty painless, this is the first time I've had issues with it. @rek Upgrades have bit me in the ass too many times. It sucks, but the only solution is to have snapshots. There is no useful system that is simple enough to not require backups/snapshots. /me just nuked its Alpine install on its RPi and has no way to undo it. It really sucks that Guix and Nix are not more nomad-friendly. Visiting my parents right now, me and Dev are staying at their house and that means I can bake ^______^.

Lasagna with spinach, mushrooms, zucchini, tofu ricotta, marinara sauce (with some red lentils), and topped by a coconut-based melty cheese and a sunflower seed parmesan. Note that it isnβt yet cooked in this photo :). Will eat this for dinner with my parents tonight~! Marinara, melty coco cheese, and tofu ricotta made from scratch ^_^ (block of tofu was store-bought though). Now that I'm near a city with an art store again I got new pencils!!! It's SO nice to not be drawing with little stubs anymore! (context: i've been drawing with old drawing supplies for a few years now, a 2B and an HB only) Arrived on the Victoria docks today and saw that our dock neighbour was from Japan! @rek alt text: lean mean japanese ocean crossing battlestation, at the back, cookie-cutter gas guzzling american motor sailing iceberg with a mast. |
@rek When you wrote the log did you write it by had at first or straight into a computer?
