A long time goal aboard Pino has been to get rid of our 3-burner LPG oven(came with the boat, just sold it this morning), and to replace it with a single burner, which frees TONS of room underneath!

We plan to put drawers there for our produce. It's gonna be awesome ^___________^!

The two white bins in the photo hold our produce, they're just leaning there, but gives a good idea of what it's going to look like.

a sailboat galley, showing an empty space where a gimballed oven used to be, now two bins of produce take up the space, but there's tons of free room around them still.

@rek ohh that sounds like a fun project ^^ we've been getting rid of a bunch of stuff in our place and finally finding way to store things in a better way, it's so satisfying ~

@ritualdust it really is.

Itll be amazing to have the produce near the actual cooking area XD... prior to this we would keep the bins in the front of the boat.

@rek oh yeah i bet, someone little changes like that makes a world of difference, can't wait to see it ~

@rek still LPG, or is the new burner induction?

elektron

@rek been considering ditching the four burner lpg stove/oven combo on our boat for a while now...

R E K

@elektron What are you thinking of replacing it with? Just a hob?

elektron

@rek HOB❓(internet searching seems to indicate this is canadian for cooktop, ne?)

elektron

@rek We've been using a single-burner inductive cooktop while on shore power and the propane while under way. I'd like to switch to electric or gas while underway, but don't know what kind of power requirements the induction burner will have. I should bring the kill-a-watt meter out and do some experiments... We don't generally use the oven at all anyway...

elektron

@rek was it gimbaled? will you miss having a gimbaled cooktop?

R E K

@elektron we're gonna build a gimbal, our boat is very tippy so it's a must for cooking underway.
We use an induction in port too, but we can't use it underway or at anchor, would draw too much (we cook most things at a 1000W, even if the plate goes to 1800W), may be fine to boil water for coffee but maybe not when making more complex meals.
Would be possible with a large solar array and battery bank (we only have 190W, and 4x6V batteries so :/).
