i restrained myself from posting photos of all of the Mystery Objects until now, but I can share these first four now since they've all reached their destinations and are no longer secret. onward to future, still-unsolved Mysteries!

Oh gosh, I feel like Im a mix of those 2 types aaahh

Jonathan M.

@ammoniumperchlorate @prahou had a roommate like that once. After I told him about my self-hosting hobby, he said "I'm a bit of a geek myself!" And then he showed off his iPhone, as well as his collection of Google smart home devices.

He offered to share access to them with me. I politely declined...

Can anyone recommend an alternative to Adobe's Lightroom for processing raw images?
Ideally, an open-source alternative that won't be too jarring for an avid Lightroom user(asking for a friend). Boosts ok.

(Looking for recommendations from photographers. Plz don't recommend software you have never used yourself. )

@rek Another vote for Darktable. Here's a screenshot so you can see there's similarities with lightroom UI (at least the version I remember from years ago). There's a lot of features, but honestly after learning 5% of it, I've found it meeting my needs, and usable.

R E K

Thank you everyone for the suggestions :), I think I've got what I need!

Kevin Boyd

@rek I tried Darktable a few months ago and nope'd out of learning the UI. It did seem like it would be able to do the job, though.

Other options include ACDSee (I used to work there, in fact, and used the software a decent amount before switching to Lightroom), and Pixelmator (which I haven't used).

The weather system that is currently hitting the PNW is huge! Northern Vancouver Island recorded a wind speed of 85 knots (159 km/h)

It's a bit more tame here in the lee of Van island, but it's been blowing 40-50 kts (74-92 km/h) for a while now. :flan_tired:

Bad Diode

@rek damn hope y’all are safe around there

Avi Bryant

@rek how’s the sea state in Vic harbour?

Artsun

@rek Yep I've been thinking about you whek I saw it via @zoom_earth (like this satellite animation is quite... something :/ mapstodon.space/@zoom_earth/11). Stay safe!

The nav bar on 100r.co was getting a bit too long(so much content), and it was causing problems on mobile.

So, we now have all of the content nested under 5 categories, each represented by an algae-eared rabbit :).

(note that I'm still working on the website at the moment ^^)

Yesterday I made Devine a pair of arm warmers, today I made mine ^___^!

Learned a lot making this second pair. I still have plenty of material so I'll likely made 2 more pairs (1 extra for us both).

Kira, feral fox 🦊 🏳️‍⚧️

@rek Cute & impressive! I haven't tried to do anything with thumb holes yet.

R E K

Made a second pair for both myself and for Devine ^___^.

Got the sizing right this time (last pair was a bit too tight around the thumbs).

Due to the the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) being on a national strike, we are temporarily closing our sale of sticker sheets.

Canada Post’s operations, which we rely on to send the stickers at a fair price, will be shut down for the duration of the strike. We will let you know once operations resume.

"An AI chatbot called FungiFriend was added to a popular mushroom identification Facebook group Tuesday. It then told users there how to 'sauté in butter' a potentially dangerous mushroom."

A moderator for the group said that the bot was automatically added by Meta, and that “we are most certainly removing it from here.”

Yikes.

you can even grayscale videos and remove all popularity symbols (likes) etc

josh

@cblgh I wanted to try for the grayscale feature but it doesn't seem to work :neofox_melt_3:

@cblgh oh man this is amazing O_O.... i've just spent time customizing my settings, YouTube feels so good to use now XD

During our sailing trip to Southeast Alaska last summer, we experienced a strange optical phenomenon, at least twice.

Today, I learned that it's called a Fata Morgana.

We saw it when sailing. We couldn't understand what was ahead and astern of us. The land was distorted, mountains and trees were stretched and/or compressed together, on occasion some would appear inverted.

It is nice to finally put a name to this ^^

"The term Fata Morgana is the Italian translation of "Morgan the Fairy" (Morgan le Fay of Arthurian legend). These mirages are often seen in the Italian Strait of Messina, and were described as fairy castles in the air or false land conjured by her magic."

@rek impressive effect and quite dangerous also i guess...

Hello folks!
These times have been pretty rough for me and since I can't tattoo with my broken finger I'm taking illustration commissions :)

I love drawing artwork for music, merch and books. I focus mainly on dark fantasy, gothic and horror themes. I very much welcome personal commissions too if you want your DnD character drawn or something like that.

Feel free to boost this ~

While searching for the Patreon logo to make an icon, all I was finding was some weird shapeless blob thing that vaguely looks like a bloated "P"... :neofox_confused:

"Wait..."

:neofox_facepalm: :ohnobubble:

R E K

Yep, only learned today of their shitty rebrand.

floatvoid

@rek i was confused. then i looked it up. and now I'm even more confused.

A couple of folks on the instance(and friends) got together and made a Diablo Tribute tape, there will be actual red cassettes available of it in a bit, but in the meantime, here's a rip of the audio!

Despite the fact that I speak French and don't use gendered pronouns for myself, I'm way behind on non-gendered terms in that language (this is due to the fact that I have lived away from Quebec for a long time now, and that I spend all of my time online in English spaces).

I recently learned that 'dessinateurice' was a thing, and I freakin' love it :nonbinary_flag:

Raphaël Bastide

@rek je trouve «designeureuse» pas mal non plus

James Chip

@rek when I tried to learn French a few years back I was completely confounded by the whole arbitrarily gendered objects thing and spent more time trying to find a logic to why things were grouped in such ways that I eventually gave the whole language up.

It is a weird thing.
