Devine: "I'm going to lie down here, and listen to a podcast."

Me: "Oh really now? Lying down?"

*10 minutes later* Devine is asleep, headphones on and all.

It really sucks to have to wrestle with LaTex errors when trying to generate a PDF with Pandoc after a system update

Apparently no two Tex binaries play well together. So whatever was installed is causing trouble with what was already on my machine (I *think* this is what this kerfuffle is about). I've got other issues too, tho, I am figuring it out, but it's a such a pain.

I just wanna work on my book dammit :angy:

Note that using LaTex/Pandoc is usually pretty painless, this is the first time I've had issues with it.

@rek Upgrades have bit me in the ass too many times. It sucks, but the only solution is to have snapshots. There is no useful system that is simple enough to not require backups/snapshots.

/me just nuked its Alpine install on its RPi and has no way to undo it.

It really sucks that Guix and Nix are not more nomad-friendly.

Visiting my parents right now, me and Dev are staying at their house and that means I can bake ^______^.
Made some choco chip cookies today. #theGalley

Lasagna with spinach, mushrooms, zucchini, tofu ricotta, marinara sauce (with some red lentils), and topped by a coconut-based melty cheese and a sunflower seed parmesan. Note that it isn’t yet cooked in this photo :). Will eat this for dinner with my parents tonight~!

Marinara, melty coco cheese, and tofu ricotta made from scratch ^_^ (block of tofu was store-bought though).

Now that I'm near a city with an art store again I got new pencils!!! It's SO nice to not be drawing with little stubs anymore!
I got a 5B and I am losing my freakin' mind! The lines are so dark :moomin_sparkles:

(context: i've been drawing with old drawing supplies for a few years now, a 2B and an HB only)

Arrived on the Victoria docks today and saw that our dock neighbour was from Japan!
We spoke a little bit. He’s leaving tomorrow for American waters :).

Do you want some cubic meters of 28°C air?
I've a lot of it… too much!

@rek That looks cozy. 🙏😀

When the wild geese who flew last noticed that the tame one couldn't keep up with them, they began to call to the goose who flew in the centre of the wedge and led the procession: "Akka from Kebnekaise! Akka from Kebnekaise!"
"What do you want of me?" asked the leader.
"The white one will be left behind; the white one will be left behind."
"Tell him it's easier to fly fast than slow!" shouted the leader, and raced on as before.

The downside of charging ports like this is that the connection tends to be a bit loose. Added an elastic band just for support and now it is tight tight :D!

Little Ninj approves of this quick fix.

@rek Oh! I'm going to try this on the port over my bunk.

I was standing on deck just now, on a calm evening, thinking how amazing it is that this vessel is mine.

It’s far from being the perfect boat, but overall I freakin’ love this thing <3

There is definitely something to be said about liking a thing more because it was customized by us.

Those customizations won’t win me or Dev any awards(we’re getting better at boat projects all the time, but we’re still such serious newbs), but they work for us, and if that stops being true then we can iterate ^____^...

Released the list of changes to the Hundred Rabbits projects for August.

Had a good sail across the Strait of Georgia today :), 24nm to Gabriola Island from Smuggler's Cove. We had 10-15 kts out of the NW, grey skies, current was with us. Ideal conditions, really.

The only un-ideal thing is Devine's swollen hand. What shit luck that a wasp stung them on a walk just yesterday :/. (This is Dev's second wasp sting swelling episode this summer, first time was on the ankle).

R E K

We waited 4 nights in Smuggler's Cove for good conditions to cross. While there we had a lot of weird weather, lots of thunderstorms, sudden violent squalls at night.

Glad to be on the Vancouver Island side of the Strait again :).

Patreon doesn’t allow the use of numbers(only) for page names anymore (formerly our studio had claimed the name “100”), so now the page has been renamed to:
patreon.com/hundredrabbits

I’ve gone through a lot of pages already, but there may be more broken URLs out there... apologies :/.

It really sucks that they did this.

In boating, I tend to assume that everyone knows what they’re doing.

“Oh? That giant motor boat is tying the stern-tie line before setting the anchor? Did they develop a special technique that I’ve never heard about?”
*Rows over*
“Need a hand?” I asked.
“Yes. We don’t know what we’re doing.”

I’m glad I asked, especially with the 3 boats dragging anchor in the last 2 days of unstable weather we’ve had.

R E K

I feel bad sometimes because we may anchor in a way that isn’t ideal (cause we’re lazy, or cause it’s temporary, but I guess we look confident doing it) that people who arrive in an anchorage start mirroring us lol...

Avi Bryant

@rek I can almost see that as a useful technique where you pull on the stern line to set yourself drifting in the right direction while you let down your chain. And then tighten it up after.

*Looks at own feet*

Whoa! WHY are my feet so damn dirty?!

Two seconds after anchoring in Smuggler's Cove, we spotted two orcas swimming by the entrance :orca:

Been a while since I've seen orcas (last time was from afar in 2021). They're so easy to recognize with their high and straight dorsal fins, and of course... they always have a crowd of admirers nearby (4 boats).

We saw another whale too, it kept slapping its tail in the water, and got in the way of a motor boat regatta which i thought was very amusing 🐋

Today was SUCH a good whale day!
