In boating, I tend to assume that everyone knows what they’re doing.

“Oh? That giant motor boat is tying the stern-tie line before setting the anchor? Did they develop a special technique that I’ve never heard about?”
*Rows over*
“Need a hand?” I asked.
“Yes. We don’t know what we’re doing.”

I’m glad I asked, especially with the 3 boats dragging anchor in the last 2 days of unstable weather we’ve had.

I feel bad sometimes because we may anchor in a way that isn’t ideal (cause we’re lazy, or cause it’s temporary, but I guess we look confident doing it) that people who arrive in an anchorage start mirroring us lol...

@rek

Pino is an almost famous boat, and you're seen as "boat-fluencers"…

@GustavinoBevilacqua that is such a cringey term XD...

Whatever boat is at anchor in an empty bay ppl tend to gravitate towards or mimic :>.

@rek I'll bet it's the cool lettering on the side. It's like how red cars go faster, cooler looking boats must have the best sailors! 🫡⛵

@sam ppl certainly remember our boat because of the size of the letters XD

@rek I can almost see that as a useful technique where you pull on the stern line to set yourself drifting in the right direction while you let down your chain. And then tighten it up after.

@avi yea, I mean, I’ve seen ppl re-anchor while stern-tied (just cause they messed it up the first time), but it didn’t look easy, and you need lots of line to get far away to put enough rode out (Seems like ppl under scope when stern tied, and then they drag when the wind comes up :/)
