The new @pixelfed landing pages are ICONIC! Admins can easily curate the landing page content, or delegate it to default trending and "auto discovery" which uses a cleverly simple algo to surface both upcoming users and existing ones Guests will be able to browse, explore, search and join with ease. Admins will have a whole new way to customize their onboarding experience, and yes, there will be a form builder with custom fields π π Please say that accounts are being promoted by the algo based on something more relevance based than who's already popular (because they were already promoted to everyone based on already being popular). We can do better than that (and hopefully you already are!π€ ) What are your thoughts on Domain Block appeals and meta-moderation discussions? Not every domain block needs to be permanent, I think @pixelfed should build a mechanism that allows admins to work to resolve disputes (via AP) and re-open federation in some cases, while maintaining the ability to permanently block domains. In addition, being able to request more details in a remote report would be nice, the request would be sent to admins ofc Feedback wanted!

I don't think you could do appeals via AP once they are already defederated, since that cuts all ties. You could do something like a defederation warning, but maybe that's even too late, which is why I'm looking at enabling communication on reports via the notes functionality: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/27562 @dansup ignorant feedback: if a domain is unblocked what happens to old posts? I would not want problematic posts to resurface after a community has dealt with the issue. Is effective dating possible so that a boost (after re-federation) of an old post doesnβt federate that old post to the community that has recently unblocked the domain? ActivityPub Filter System Inspired by Pleroma (MRF) and Cloudflare (WAF), this new @pixelfed feature will help improve safety and moderation by empowering admins with fine-grained tools like these. Better yet, you will be able to easily import/export rules and I'm working on a FEP so other projects can add support using a common vocab. Available soon β¨ I would be pretty surprised if this didn't come with some significant performance issues (probably somewhat fixable) β also wondering if you've looked at something like SQRL language & runtime? You'll also likely want a warning about the scunthorpe problem & to just move matching activities to a manual approval queue (rather than dropping completely)

Pixelfed app (v1.0.0.67) is now available! β¨ - Fixed home/public feed pagination https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed-rn/releases/tag/v1.0.0.67 @pixelfed already running it, thank you! @pixelfed F-Droid's descriptions needs to be added and updated properly. Even the app version is shown as "1.0.0" for a very long time. Adding some screenshots will be also very nice. @dansup @pixelfed sounds amazing! I'm interested in learning more about a locked down, family only instance. I don't feel comfortable posting photos of my child on commercial social media (even on a private account, because... don't trust them with biometric info) and it would be a good excuse to get my family on the Fediverse. Where can I find more info/documentation about this? @dansup @pixelfed love, love, love this. I started a family instance when we welcomed our firstborn. Itβll be her social media training wheels, and preserver of family memories for years to come. I greatly appreciate all your hard work, and especially in recognizing the value of this use case π«Ά

Made some improvements to the @pixelfed docs, lots more in store https://docs.pixelfed.org/running-pixelfed/configuration.html Did you know? Pixelfed has a default limit of 1000 users per instance. This encourages healthy community growth and meaningful interactions. Excellent. We need that across the whole of the Fediverse. Maybe a 2000 or 5000 limit but relatively small chunks for sure.

@dansup @pixelfed How are these generated? Is it just what hashtags are generally used together?
Edit: nevermind I saw your later posts. Could this be a good way to do it?
