What are your thoughts on Domain Block appeals and meta-moderation discussions?

Not every domain block needs to be permanent, I think @pixelfed should build a mechanism that allows admins to work to resolve disputes (via AP) and re-open federation in some cases, while maintaining the ability to permanently block domains.

In addition, being able to request more details in a remote report would be nice, the request would be sent to admins ofc

Feedback wanted!

@dansup @pixelfed Yes, there must be a mechanismus to lift a domain block if someone find out, that the block was set on false facts or something has dramatically changed.

@dansup @pixelfed both sound good. Also maybe the ability to put in a timed block that reverts after the specified time.

@dansup @pixelfed A non- or less destructive domain block would be nice, if not available yet.

I think that might have to be just porous enough to let the other server know that a user and follow relationship still exists, but should reject new follows and transmit as little data as possible to the blocked instance.

Edit: Basically something you can enable if another instance is experiencing some massive but likely short-lived problem, ideally with the option to purge only recent related content.

I don't think you could do appeals via AP once they are already defederated, since that cuts all ties.

You could do something like a defederation warning, but maybe that's even too late, which is why I'm looking at enabling communication on reports via the notes functionality: github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i

@dansup ignorant feedback: if a domain is unblocked what happens to old posts? I would not want problematic posts to resurface after a community has dealt with the issue.

Is effective dating possible so that a boost (after re-federation) of an old post doesn’t federate that old post to the community that has recently unblocked the domain?
