@dansup I left birdsite entirely. Content on Mastodon is vastly more relevant than on the birdsite. I'm convinced that if you were to ignore the bots and trollfarms, Mastodon has more active users and posts.
@dansup How accurate are these stats‽ They put WordPress (which is main strain amongst the non geek populations) far behind Mastodon, PixelFed, Peertube, WriteFreely, etcetera.
I cried like a baby. Molly was my fav, and for them to ignore her the whole season only to do her like that, fuck sakes. A part of me hoped that her blindness would get cured so she could make it to Mars or atleast work at Helion.
Fuck you apple for making such a good show only to kill off Gordo and Molly, the two best people 😭
@dansup The next logical step will be SMS-based password recovery, because it always happens after that, which will be used by governments to fuck social accounts of any person they don't like. Nice plan :shrug_akko:
When a spam account is deleted from a large instance like mastodon.social, they federate the account deletion to every known instance. This means your server has to check if that account exists and delete it if so. Account deletion is an expensive process but one that is required. The issue with this is how small servers are subjected to these constant activities from larger servers that are likely more able to deal with this. 🧵 (2/4)
Being able to boost a pixelfed.social post from @pixelfed (with 19k+ followers) without causing downtime or overloading the single vps it's hosted on is amazing!
Look forward to further improving scalability and performance once the app beta is out, we're going to need it 😎 #pixeldev
@dansup yes, because you can’t read the label if you’re stuck into the jar! Remember to write from the perspective of your users: what to they seek? what do they want/need to know?
@dansup Not really. Who are you writing for? What language do they use? How can you explain your unique benefits issuing that language? If in doubt, consult one or more members of your target audience.
Two tornado warnings this past weekend, yesterday one touched down 30 miles from me. In northern Canada these are rare, but two in one weekend is concerning 😅 #tornado
Calls, Foundation, The Morning Show, For All Mankind, Wecrashed and Loot are some of my favourite shows.
I can't say the same for Netflix or Prime Video. I loved House of Cards and The Man in the High Castle but it seems like Apple TV+ is producing exactly the type of content I love.
Music is a huge part of my life, those clips I posted from Burial and Kid Cudi are a few favorites of mine!
I wish there was a federated music playlist app where you could share lists of songs that would support 3rd party music platforms like apple music or spotify so you wouldn't have to host the actual files or deal with copyright issues
@dansup wonder if Funkwhale could be extended to support it? They have support for external podcasts via RSS. Feels doable. (obligatory "PRs welcome!!!!")
@dansup That might be a fun project -- something like that old "mixtape" website that used to exist back in the 90s. You would have to be wired to one of the premium services though.

@dansup A graph to see posts per day would be interesting. Now I’m wondering how much twitter does daily.
