We appreciate all the enthusiasm for Pixelfed, but we ask our community to please let photographers enjoy Mastodon and other platforms too! We aren't the only home for photos, we think we are pretty good, but the magic of the fediverse is that you can follow anyone, anywhere. We shouldn't push people to Pixelfed by replying to their Mastodon posts, we're big enough that many people can find us naturally. Thanks for understanding, and keep sharing those pixels ✨

@pixelfed thank you for providing an alternative to artists to the commercial networks running on misleading algorithms 🙏. But for newbies like me who are currently making the effort to try durable alternatives and are testing @Mastodon, @pixelfed and the #fediverse, it is difficult to understand what you are talking about and what we should start with. Is there like a guide for dummies that could help us start on the right foot and stay in the long term? Thanks 😊 @pixelfed Open source software on Kickstarter is my jam. Ghost.org was born on Kickstarter, and now thrilled to be able to sponsor the amazing ActivityPub-driven @pixelfed on our collective quest to bring back the open web. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pixelfed/pixelfed-foundation-2024-real-ethical-social-networks @johnonolan We are so incredibly thankful for your generous pledge! Long live the open web! 🚀 I'm pretty wiped, and I know the whole @spritely team is, but we got out two major releases that are a BIG FREAKING DEAL in terms of our vision of bringing the next generation of decentralized networks to users and I need to unpack that and why it is ... after I decompress, at last, for a bit ;P Open source alternatives to Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp raise funds on Kickstarter https://techcrunch.com/2025/01/24/open-source-alternatives-to-instagram-tiktok-and-whatsapp-raise-funds-on-kickstarter/ New blog post: Pixelfed Launches Kickstarter: Building Ethical Social Networks for Everyone https://pixelfed.blog/p/2025/announcement/pixelfed-announces-kickstarter @pixelfed just a question before I invest. Over 300 people applied, wow! It may take me a week or two to respond, I have to focus on Pixelfed and Loops development, but please know I will respond to every application personally. Our time has come ✨ We have been overshadowed by our sister account, @PixelFed@pixelfed.social With more than twice our follower count, it just goes to show that Pixelfed has arrived. We're not going anywhere, we are so appreciative of our Mastodon origin story. We couldn't thrive without the fediverse, it doesn't matter what platform you are on. It just matters you are here. @pixelfed@mastodon.social @PixelFed@pixelfed.social What would be the "official" account?

Huge shout out to our newest team member, @shlee for organizing our amazingly successful Kickstarter, and helping us establish a long term vision for our platforms and community! While we reached our initial goal, we are aiming even higher to accomplish even more this year! Help us reach $100K 🚀

So I donate via Patreon. Would it make sense to move your future donations off of Kickstarter to it to get a sustainable steady monthly donation income instead of bursts of Kickstarter campaigns? Also even better would be incorporating into the App itself ala @signalapp and include unique badges on accounts to show that you're an active supporter. I've found the Signal solution to be quite elegant. If you've never used it, it's a perfect time to prep for #globalswitchday Feb1

@pixelfed I understand why you celebrate that success, but I'm really looking forward to the people who sent you the VCs to find a way through Kickstarter and similar means to finance a bigger vision with more zeroes in them, even if the growth towards these numbers is slow. For instance, what financing ideas does the @EUCommission have? Democratic governments truly want ethical and independent social media with a leadership that understands how both systems can influence each other healthily. @pixelfed If you think about it, it's not even that much money, yet it's achieving so much. What I'm trying to say is that the killer argument why governments should support open source is because it's cheap. A "small" investment a "few" hundred thousand can have a greater impact than any tech startup company ever could.

@dansup @pixelfed Work with #Damus . A #Nostr Protocal. It’s completely decentralized. It’s basically like #Mastodon but with no instances like #Blusky. That’s the only flaw, the only problem is the Sign-In/Log-Ins. Just use username and 𝘝𝘰𝘪𝘭à. It would be a great Pro if #Pixelfed would use that direction and not collect E-Mail a Password. I’d wish #Pixelfed will go to that route.
Basically, it’s the Sign-In/Log-in. That bothers me. Please make it easy.
@dansup @Mastodon @pixelfed Either work with #Damus or make #Damus collaborate with #Mastodon.
