@pixelfed Just joined a few days ago and it's actually the kind of platform I have looked out for since 500px got bought by Visual China. Because 500px was a big no for me and Instagram kind of failed all photographers, I am glad that Pixelfed exists and that I have finally found a place where one can explore photography online again <3

@pixelfed OMG thank you for making this, I just sent it to a friend who uses Instagram who has been real active in trying to get people to boycott companies that donated to Trump’s inauguration. So she’s in a great place to finally get rid of Meta products.

@benjamin_segfaulted_again @pixelfed there are some subtle differences. For example, pixelfed allows more than 4 pics per post. If you're on mastodon looking at a pixelfed post, it will only display 4 pics, even if the pixelfed post has more pics.

I messed around with logins and did both a mastodon and a pixelfed accounts.
Then, while still trying to understand the basics of fediverse, I deleted pixelfed account.Stupid move.
Now it is impossible to activate it again.

I understand that it's a security feature to prevent name stealing but I should be allowed to activate it again if both my username AND email are the same as the original account.

I bet it could be a common issue.

@BlurredPixels @pixelfed @schykle You could just make another Pixelfed account at a different instance! That way you can use whatever account name you want.

You don't have to make an account at the main Pixelfed instance, in fact it's better to spread the user load by having many medium-sized instances! See here for more info: fedi.tips/which-server-should-

(The article is about Mastodon but really the same applies to Pixelfed.)

The server I’m on is small and I’m finding it difficult (=impossible) to find anything from other servers. Just an empty void at the moment… I’m not sure what I’m missing.

@khoji @pixelfed same for my pxlfd.ca account. I am not sure you're missing something : there are surely delays on how elements are federated between servers ? Till now (quite new instance and new account) : my home feed does not show any of the hashtags I follow, whereras with my (former but still active) pixelfed.social account, these hashtags are very active and show a lot of posts...
Is it a server parameter, a activitypub one or a #pixelfed one ? Idk...

@khoji @pixelfed As I understand it, it takes a little while for an instance to synchronize with other instances, if it hasn't made a connection with it before, or with certain hashtags. There's a word for that which I can't quite think of now... 🤔

Anyway, I had the same when I first made my account here. I just followed some people from bigger instances and some hashtags I was interested in, and in a day or two my feed was filled with the good stuff.
