Going through the backlog of https://pixelfed.art Curated Onboarding applications! My apologies to some applicants who applied more than 2 weeks ago, I've been quite busy with @loops I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, most of y’all don’t know what it’s like to be a fediverse developer of a popular project and have to deal with all the negative feedback and personal attacks Let’s be nicer to the devs of the fediverse who have been doing this mostly unpaid for the greater good, all I ask is for basic respect! Anfora, Prismo, Firefish and dozens of other projects have been abandoned by their devs, and I’d bet the fediverse mentality towards devs is part of the reason

@dansup I appreciate Fediverse devs very much- without you I’d use no social media at all. @dansup also clearly part of the cause of the recent xz security issue. I don’t understand how people feel so entitled at all, much less something they aren’t paying for. Sorry to hear you are dealing with that, thanks for the efforts you put into development, especially software that enriches the fediverse!

Necessary edits: "Imagine writing an open source twitter alternative One that is federated and built on open protocols Then having to deal with users who are upset you are working with an established walled garden social platform whose entire agenda is to override and ultimately destroy those very open protocols in a demonstrated pattern of conquest and assimilation" Finally: "Girl, you can't have it both ways" "girl"? girl? What is this, TikTok or a high school lunchroom? Valid point, but I worry that this is an #EmbraceExtendExtinguish scheme: 1. Threads federates. See also: email. @dansup I value the right of individuals to decide if they want to follow or block (instances). Having a choice is why we should be here. A walled garden decides everything for individuals, and leaves them no choices. Many of us wanted to get away from that. I've reached out to Meta/Threads devs regarding Nodeinfo and stats numbers for https://FediDB.org, unfortunately their legal dept rejected this. I will use estimated numbers with the hope they will see this and have justification for reporting accurate stats. Even though I have my own reservations regarding Meta (and how they've treated Pixelfed), putting my ego aside for the benefit of the fediverse is required when running an essential fedi service like FediDB.

I'm a weirdo, I use separate code editors for app dev and backend dev. Used Sublime Code for years, but VS Code is really useful as an IDE for native app development. Context switching is much easier this way I've found, that being said, VS Code is really growing on me. @dansup Hello ! The app is not recognising metapixl.com as a valid server although it is version 0.11.13 @dansup super excited about Loops, best of luck! Been thinking about #MusicDiscovery on Fedi, and Loops could be a game-changer here… Like a “save music” bookmark button to revisit an artists’ music link later? TikTok has an “add to Spotify” button now but the algorithm lottery is a head-melt for artists. If we had a real alternative, it would be a life-raft for the arts rn💜 Thanks so much for your work, legend I ended up combining text and icons for the comment action buttons! Thanks for your feedback ❤️ @dansup I am not a tester, but from the screenshot, I would expect the "reply" arrow to point the other direction. Pointing to the right usually makes me think of "forward" Edit: Went with a combined text/icon! https://mastodon.social/@dansup/112180504719750104 Text vs Icon buttons, I think the icons look better, wdyt?

@dansup Both, but also please right align them so they’re consistently positioned on each comment

@dansup the server I'm on doesn't support pf, my login details I had with Web version doesn't work anymore. Pixelfed Loops and PeerTube Shorts... just imagine 😍 @Chocobozzz you down? Let's work together on federation, we could do so much together ❤️

@dansup @Chocobozzz I already have a couple short form videos uploaded to my #PeerTube instance to test compatibility with @dansup @Chocobozzz And if this could be timed with the TikTok Ban bill that'd be fantastic for the fediverse. Loops + c2s would be a perfect match, few activitypub implementations support the client to server model. 🤔 @dansup Go for it! It’s always seemed like a chicken-and-egg problem: nobody builds C2S servers because there’s no clients, and nobody builds clients because there’s no servers. If you could get even one good client off the ground, it might bootstrap the whole C2S ecosystem. And I, for one, will absolutely follow you there. I’d much rather build a solid C2S server instead of implement the Mastodon API. My plan for Loops was to use your Pixelfed account for auth, and thats all good and all but when it comes to federation, I think this warrants a separate followers collection. I'm considering either creating a new outbox like collection for Loops that are delivered to all followers, or a separate account with its own outbox and follower collections. What are your thoughts?

@dansup When I first got into Fedi, I wanted to — and was frustrated I couldn’t — post from one account to all the things, but came around to the value of having different accounts for different services for different interests. @dansup many of these different social media’s (microblogs, personal photoblogs, personal video shares) have different circle of friends, acquaintances, random people you’d want to share them with. One way to enable that is separate (external) account names, an other could be what (I think) Google+ did with its circles & what Insta kinda does with “close friends”. I don’t know the best solution, but just wanted to add my thinking on the topic. Push Notifications + Share Intents are crucial and I won't make the same mistake again. The #loops beta will ship with push notifications, and in a few weeks share intents. We will send push notifications for every like, follow, and comment (and eventually mentions, duets and reacts) and you will be able to toggle each one in the app if you prefer to limit them! The sheet on the second screenshot should probably be titled just "Options". "Share to -> Share" is confusing, "Share to -> Block" even more so. It would also work better if you make these options icon-with-label buttons like these: |
