Ever since I experienced this comparatively light harassment, I've been speaking to victims and heard the most unimaginable things. From withholding medicine in order to bully people or make them do false allegations to coordinating misinformation and collaborating with local (sports) clubs, hackerspaces, communities in order to ban people they dislike / came forward about their abuse, from all of these spaces.

That's quite ironic considering they were banished for this behavior from hackerspaces and now project this treatment onto others.

The people this was and still is about are:

Continuing with the normal post this was originally about...

I was called on my personal phone number this evening (22:50) by a group of 10 people from the Fediverse ( girldick.gay/@lily ) threatening to report to Vodafone that we are disobeying their terms of service (side-services of mastodon.de are hosted behind a 1Gbit/s private connection instead of a business contract). While their obviously ill-intended conversation was going on, they were also live posting about it on their accounts happily admitting to what they are doing. You can see these comments as screenshots attached to this post.

The motivation behind this was simply to annoy me. I know the people, we had a slight disagreement on the Fediverse recently. Regardless of the contract, we have planned to move mastodon.de completely to the cloud soon.

Honest to god, mastodon.de is a donation-funded project. Me and a couple of friends do this honorarily and we do our best to be as transparent about our expenditures as possible. I do all the finances, all public texts, all management, calls, etc. I do this next to studying Computer Science in university, next to my honorary political / environmental activist work, next to having friends or sleeping which often comes too short.

I'd love to have the life of people that can take the time out of their day to call someone at 11 pm simply to annoy them due to some internet argument that started and ended over a week ago. Truly, if I'd have that kind of time I'd be happier in life. Annoy billionaires and politicians, but not some guy who has spent all of his time, effort, and money into something that is for the common good.

@ErikUden Well... After I had a fediverse admin who did not like me confronting him with his own arguments hunt down everyone who knew me, including correlating the IPs I used according to his webserver logs with my customers to block their networks, I am not at all surprised.

@nik Wow, I am really sorry this had to happen to you. I wouldn't believe my weird friends here are willing to go that far, but you never know... Apparently some people on the Fedi are just timebombs and you just need to meet them on the wrong day and they'll decide to dedicate incredible resources in their life to end everything you tried building.

@skobkin I have no idea. Really. I mean, let's roll back here a bit: in what UNIVERSE does having a phone number mean having 24/7 Friday night support ready? Call your local supermarket, why don't ya? Some local office of some nonsense company? They don't got support. They use their phone number to do business calls during business hours... What? The reasoning here is just incredible.

Then the fact they're calling me on my personal mobile phone over a 35€ internet contract which includes a phone number - which is the phone number of my company... which can be found on my company's website? You wouldn't need to be a genius to figure that one out, but I think we're going about this too rational.

They aren't trying to understand it, rather they are actively trying to weaponize their stupidity and incompetence to annoy me. The goal here isn't to be helpful or ask honest questions, the goal was simply to turn Erik Uden into a spectacle, which was entertaining for a while, but gets old really quick.

I hope you'll get rid of them ASAP and forget about it. It's not worth of your time and your peace of mind.
BTW, if they're using your instance, I'd set a deadline for them to move to another server. It's okay to not agree with someone, but threatening is another matter.

You are right that this is not worth my time and usually I would not publicize something like this - however, I felt like I wanted to speak up about it because it has never happened to me before and I do not know how to deal with it?

I wanted to talk about it because it was surprising... to say the least. In the future I will no longer bug my timeline with it.

Yeah, I can understand your frustrarion. Sometimes we meet completely irrational people and it's very hard to comprehend what's going on in their heads. Often it's not worth it to even try.

And no, I wasn't suggesting to ban them right away, just let them know that with such behavior they're not welcome. And if they're not on your instance then it's probably not even worth blocking them. So you're right, ignoring them sounds like the best choice.

From there it continued for another 18 minutes. And yes, the whole conversation was as aggravating and as intently misunderstanding and this short section. This was obviously not well intended. I do not understand why one would bug open source maintainers that manage a donation funded project with no profit motive or ads or personal gain like that. I wish I had that kinda time.

Leider war dies mein Comedy-Abendprogramm und Ich habe jede Sekunde davon genossen. Ein weiteres Mal ist es meine Zeit nicht wert, Ich habe aber auch drum gebeten diese Diskussion, wenn sie diese wirklich ernst meinen, in einem öffentlichen Raum auszutragen. Ich glaube diese Menschen fühlen sich sehr sicher in ihrer Anonymität und glauben sie könnten alles tun und die Leben anderer Menschen schädigen weil es für sie ein Spaß ist.

Wenn es ihnen wirklich um Unklarheiten bei den Ausgaben unseres Open Source Projekts geht dann bin Ich bereit für eine öffentliche Debatte bei der Ich alles aufkläre und Fakten auf den Tisch lege mit vorbereiteten Finanzdokumenten etc.

Aber darum geht es hier offensichtlich nicht. Es geht darum einen Menschen wie mich zu einer Attraktion werden zu lassen, sich zu bespaßen an meiner Frustration und der Zeit die mir durch sie geraubt wird.

Für die Transparenz und das ehrliche Beantworten von Unstimmigkeiten stehe Ich aber immer noch - auch wenn man dafür manchmal die Zeit an ein paar böswillige Menschen vergeudet.

Weil Ich mag es denen auch Geld zu geben, dann meckern die meistens auch nicht wenn man mehr gibt.

But as if Vodafone gives enough shits to really investigate it for peanuts, you'd have to be running Netflix.com on it to grab their interest.

btw, I rail 100GB+ a month on a residential ADSL+4G combo and my not Vodafone sized ISP doesn't even throttle the 4G booster, let alone demand a biz contract, so good luck to them

But again, they could dig + whois me, my ISP even gave me a full stack fixed IPv4 for nothing just because I clicked a buttion that said I want it and knew what I was doing.

So they kind of just assume if you do that, you're doing something of that nature, no questions asked
