In the next version of Mastodon, you’ll be able to continue watching or listening as you scroll away from a post

@Gargron he mein fehler ist weg bei meinem mastodon. Wie geil ist das denn. Scheint so mal test ob alle das jetzt lesen können. Tröt Every time I return home from the gym the line from At The End Of The Earth by The Dear Hunter where he sings "Back from the grave" plays in my head except with "gym" instead of "grave" My possibly unpopular view on documentation translations is that they are more of a liability than an asset when you don't have someone whose literal job it is to ensure those translations are always up to date. If something changes and the information becomes out of date it's worse than if you (in the worst case) had to use Google Translate on the page. But it's so difficult to say no when someone's already put their time into translating so I don't know where I'm going with this

@Gargron I have seen so many low quality and therefore unreadable translations. I once had a client project where I had to fix machine translation from English to Finnish, but I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t even guess the meaning of all sentenges, because of wrong synonyms and/or incorrect declensions. More common language pairs may be fine with machine translation, but I think blanks/outdated parts should just display English 🤔 I'm frustrated because I don't really know what's the best way to implement a pop-out media player for when you scroll away from a post that's playing and I'm worried that the approach I chose is the wrong one 😦 Kinda have to create a new media element that's not part of the status component because you don't want to lose it if the status gets unmounted, but starting playback from a new element isn't gapless.

@Gargron you could create an off screen media element and proxy to another media element or canvas that you then mount and use to proxy events, kind of like how bbc/VideoContext does it @Gargron for now users can PiP in Chrome A new way to PIP Just head over to flip the flag to ‘enabled’, click that blue restart button and the next time you pull up a video that supports PIP (YouTube is the obvious choice, but many services use it), you can now look in your notifications tray for a new PIP button works with Mastodon embedded vids @Gargron in HTML you can just reappend same media element where you want and it will preserve it's state. Not sure if this is possible in React. And this does not work with iframes. I guess for React you can play media in a portal and when status is visible, position: absolute it to status frame, and when status is not visible, change it to fixed element. Another approach could be to manually restore state when media gets pinned, but again, it's impossible for iframes, and is heavy operation. This one singer I know from their YouTube channel has more listeners on Spotify than most of the bands I listen to :michaelwazowski:

@Gargron i live in the netherlands so the only time i don't like the rain is when i have to go bike somewhere @Gargron Twitter is bringing its ‘read before you retweet’ prompt to all users I really should add something like this but with "Are you sure you really want to reply to this 2 year old post" 😅

@Gargron In the modern Internet, if a two year old post can be found at all, it means it's significant enough to deserve a reply. ;) @Gargron People get so angry at old news that has already been resolved. I don't get it. @Gargron "Do you want to spell-check before sending?" This would eliminate at least half of the Qanon qult garbage I see on Twitter.
