Turns out that our statistics aggregator at joinmastodon.org severely undercounted Mastodon data between Oct 2 and today due to a network connectivity issue. This has now been corrected. #TheDearHunter album Migrant has been re-recorded and released yesterday as Migrant Returned.

@Gargron I thought you were talking about Deerhunter and, to my surprise, itβs another really nice band! @Gargron loving the returned version of the album. How do you like it compared to the original? Personally I'm quite pleased with the design of link cards in Mastodon 4.2, they finally feel on par with other types of media attachments. Links make the web go round!

@Gargron Looks much better. Links are an important part of the web. Good that you agree with that. While the other guy on the single letter app, reduces visibility of posts with links. @Gargron indeed they are. on the other hand they sometimes steal attached pictures the show. @Gargron I just wish that if it was a link to another toot, it showed the whole toot without my having to click instead of the current behavior. Highlight from newly released #Graveyard album. "AI" is really the new "blockchain" in how every company is trying to hit the buzzword bingo with it right now.

@Gargron At work, we're getting pressure to 'use more ai' and 'do something innovative with ai'. Turns out all our clients are asking about it, and we're being regarded as not as good as competitors because we're 'not using ai', so we're just supposed to shoehorn it in somehow. We're actually using machine learning in several areas, but apparently ai now means chatbots and generative art. @Gargron AI is a tool that is not too different from the earlier models. More cpu/gpu power. A big data mining available for the big private collectors such as meta, ms, alphabet etc. itβs useful and important but not how is being told and sell β¦ but itβs interesting i/o refined to generate a program :) There is like... Nothing of value in the new #Dota2 compendium. Not sure how they thought that was a good idea. It was a gold laying hen every year! @Gargron Is there now a solution for the missing photos and pictures that are not displayed in my profile and timelines? Since yesterday, only the new ones were gone and now everything old is missing. Mastodon is going to have a new intern thanks to @zdfmagazin. @ErikUden appeared on the show to talk about online privacy and received an unexpected prize. π

@gargron Hier noch mal das Video ohne Tracking: @Gargron @zdfmagazin @ErikUden How about an official Mac app, mona has too many unneeded features @Gargron @zdfmagazin @ErikUden Even with YouTube's automatic translation I only understood about 20% of that⦠however, it was hilarious and awesome. Welcome Erik!

@Gargron the literal translation of the word "bullet" from that song would be quite interesting! I was very delighted to discover thereβs an active and thriving #BelieveInFilm community on Mastodon a while back. Thereβs a whole cluster of hashtags where you can find lovely analog pictures, like #FilmPhotography, #35mm, #MediumFormat and more.

@Gargron Would it make sense to have a one-time splash screen the informs users of this option after a certain key upgrade? I feel like this is essential to Mastodon's growth. Love this headline from The Verge... "Mastodon 4.2 works more like it ought to". Good to hear! @Gargron @ardent_handsaw Great to hear about the search and cross-instance interaction features. @Gargron @ardent_handsaw lolβ¦if the verge and nilay βworked more like theyβre supposed toβ theyβd be all-in on mastodon ππ₯± but hey, congrats on the good press β well earned @Gargron @ardent_handsaw With this version, a lof of network errors occur, e.g. when expanding a post to see all replies. It hangs, then the lower left corenr shiows many 'oops..unexpected errors'. The list functionality is broken as well. (e.g. when clicking on the list, the same network errors occur). deleting the lists fixes that. It's release day! #Mastodon 4.2 will drop later today. I'm very excited for all the improvements we've been working on since January to become available to all server operators and their users.

Making people pay to tweet should be the nail in the coffin for #Twitter; but then again I thought turning it into a glorified Parler would've been that nail already. As they say, the market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.

@Gargron I heard a lot of people telling me: They are not affected by all the fascists and nazis in the slightest, since their community isnβt part of βgeneral twitterβ (whatever this means). But I cannot believe theyβd be willing to pay Musk directly, would they? I was permanently suspended from Twitter/X merely because I repeated some bad things about Tesla cars I'd seen in the news & Consumer Reports; & in the same post I quoted the price of Dogecoin which Musk is fond of.

I like that it is free of ads and respects privacy and independence of infrastructure is build-in, which makes it the perfect social network.
@Gargron @dangillmor as of 2023 it is already the greatest social platform ever made. even better than vine and β08 twitter
@Gargron I'm hugely grateful for Mastodon. You're doing great work here, thank you.
