Writing that 4.2 announcement, it won't be too long from now. Focusing on just a few big things, but there are so many tiny improvements that make it feel so much more complete...

I have the iPhone 12 Pro and it's basically already the perfect phone, I don't feel like any of this stuff is worth upgrading for #AppleEvent

@Gargron That's what I have and it takes great pictures. I often get asked what camera I use to take photos and videos and people are always surprised when I say it's an iPhone 12.

I do have another camera with a long zoom for birds and the moon, etc.

Clay Baker

@Gargron I have an iPhone 12 and I couldn't agree more. The new stuff does not look like it is worth the cost.

Eugen Rochko

USB-C is the one convincing point for this iPhone #AppleEvent

@Gargron Thanks #EU, it sometimes makes me feel good to be an European.
Now to the user-replaceable battery department. And while I don't give a damn about Apple and their products, I really wonder what kind of Apple-centric "revolutionary" crap they will wrap this feature with when presented.

Benson Leung

@Gargron I agree! It's interesting that they didn't lead with it though, or make a big deal of it... This change will have a reverberating impact on the whole ecosystem.

ivanhoek

@Gargron why? Itโ€™s really not that big a deal. Itโ€™s just a port.

Eugen Rochko

Typically the camera improvements are the most exciting part for me, but I think I already scratched my itch by getting into analog photography, so this far I'm not seeing anything worth upgrading for #AppleEvent

@Gargron I have a new Samsung phone loaded with undefeatable auto enhancements, and I think I am going to start lugging around my old Canon.

Botolo

@Gargron same here. Iโ€™ll keep my iPhone 13 Pro Max for another year.

@Gargron Isn't every one of these product launch events?

@Gargron Watching it at 4am AEST, (due to not being able to get back to sleep, not fandom) and it was certainly very underwhelming. The moment Tim Cook said only two devices in his intro, my eyes got heavier.

We're going to make a #Mastodon plushie and it's going to be very cute! I'll share more details once the prototype is doneโ€”the concept art is very promising and our partners at FRESH have a good track record of making plushies ๐Ÿ™‚

@Gargron Exciting. I am going to buy one and put it on my shelf and very clearly and earnestly explain how it should and shouldn't sit on my shelf, sometimes increasingly angrily AS IT NEEDS TO REALISE ON THIS PARTICULAR PLATFORM things work quite differently.

iris โœฟ sandwalker

@Gargron certainly the #mastodon #plushie will be resourced organically and manufactured sustainably and with fair wages paid to labourers and all that, right?

The search interface has been updated againโ€”you've now got infinite scroll on search results. Want to search for something you've already bookmarked? Add in:library to your search query.

@Gargron

I am so glad I found this post again.

I immediately put it to the test: it works! Thank you.

But I had not boosted, and I wanted to post this "it works!" comment, but the feed scrolled it away from me.

But i found it again, and all is well.

This is my Mastodon short thriller story for the day.

@Gargron a fantastic song that Iโ€™ll never be able to get my friends into because some of the lyrics sound like โ€œcagar caralhoโ€ which in Brazil means โ€œto poop dicksโ€

Three Jackdaws :mastodon:

@Gargron I'm listening #Heilung since 2018 and it's one of the best #FolkMetal bands now. An unique sound and #music. I love it.

Eugen Rochko

It started with me opting not to keep smart lights when I moved. I found the routine of pressing physical switches more rewarding than the tap of a touch screen. I've since gotten into vinyl, and film photography. I still stream music, and I still take photos with my iPhone when it's more convenient, but I find the physicality of analog devices uniquely rewarding.

@Gargron Like real books and the turning of the page and the choice of paper that says something about the book as much as the cover design, the font chosen and the layout of the page that allows room for notes in the margin or not, underlining or not.

Not to mention, the smell of an old bookstore would never be the same if it was full of Kindles, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

LongtimeLurker1stTimePoster

@Gargron the body demands catharsis. We really have reached the point where we've created such a gulf between body and mind using our bodies is seen as a novelty. I want to say the medium is the message, our body is the journey, never forget that

Tom Resing

@Gargron might pull out some โ€œsmartโ€ lights and switches myself

Eugen Rochko

The fragmentation among friends that follows Twitterโ€™s collapse is exactly the kind of problem that Mastodon and the social web solves for. Imagine that you donโ€™t have to pick and choose which new platform to adopt, or make and maintain a million accountsโ€”because you can follow anyone regardless of which platform theyโ€™re on. Thatโ€™s our reality.

@Gargron No it's not. You can't even follow all your friends on Mastodon. I tried for over a year, and this is the fifth account I made on the Fediverse. but again and again some vainglorious admin hit the "fediblock" button. Then I was told I'm not allowed to criticize admins and causing too much trouble with my complaints.

Goodbye Mastodon, hello Bluesky.

Botolo

@Gargron the main pain in the neck of Mastodon is that you can join only one community and how itโ€™s difficult to monitor local feeds from other communities. For example, Iโ€™d love to check popular content on three different communities, but I canโ€™t.

Vicki Harris

@Gargron Am I being stupid? I've lost Twitter friends to Mastodon, Threads and Bluesky, so in what sense are they all in one place?

Eugen Rochko

You can now search for a bunch more stuff on mastodon.social! If you're on web, the popout on the search bar will tell you. Designing this stuff to work properly was pretty fun!
