You can now search for a bunch more stuff on mastodon.social! If you're on web, the popout on the search bar will tell you. Designing this stuff to work properly was pretty fun!

@Gargron out of curiosity: do current third party clients need to do anything particular to fetch results (like using a specific API) or is it all server based and normal search is fine? Thanks @MaryPot You're not on the version I'm talking about. You can always search your own posts. @Gargron Opt-in for the win. These kinds of things should always be opt-in by default. When Facebook and Google started doing automatic opt-in for all their dodgy data shanigans was when I started opting out of their services entirely. Treat your user with respect! Thanks for doing so here at #mastodon @Gargron that just feels a bit binary. I like their stuff. It's just when there's too much I loose everyone. A function to allow users to deprioitize posts/boosts from users, without turning them off altogether would be great. @Gargron Nice! Canβt wait to have a look when I get home π Thank you for Mastodon πΈ @Gargron Maybe I'm too stupid, but with me , with android smartphone and browser, is not displayed. @Gargron I guess this message is for people with a mastodon.social address? Iβm pretty clueless. @Gargron thank you so much. Searching for my old posts is something I do fairly frequently when I am researching a problem. @Gargron username lookup (for even users my acct knows already, follow, followed by, & at-convo'd with, prior) has been broke for me starting this Sat. in Mastodon Android. on toot.io. I know it coincided with search change rollout, but dont know root cause eg. in app I see that "joe5557gkshbfbsbnf" boosted a toot into my feed. I dont like this. want to jump to joe's profile to unfollow or hide his boosts. I go into search tab, type in joe: no hits. joe5567: no hits. even his full username. no |
If you want to opt in to this new search system, check out the new privacy and reach tab on your edit profile page. More details to follow in the future 4.2 blog post π
