Personally I'm quite pleased with the design of link cards in Mastodon 4.2, they finally feel on par with other types of media attachments. Links make the web go round!

@Gargron What's your vision for how quote boosts would look? Or would it just use the same link cards as in 4.2 currently?

@Gargron This is some of the finest shade I have ever seen published to ActivityPub

@Gargron They look great. Note: I still find the URL does not consistently populate in the address bar of a new private tab on Brave Private Window on iOS 16 - I often get a new blank tab instead, and have to right click the link and select "Open In New Private Tab" to avoid the issue.

Edit: iPad 7th gen. Other than that, the web experience is very satisfying IMHO.

@Gargron social media these days feels like one step forward and two steps back.

Mastodon: One step forward
Twitter: Two steps back

@Gargron

If I'm understanding what you mean by "link cards" what they mean is that when a link to a main-stream news media site fills in its link card and renders what ever click-bait image its decided will bring in the most traffic, I'm condemned to looking at smug, snarky mug shots of Elon Musk every time I scroll up and down my Home feed

At least make the damned things respond to a "Hide Image" so I only have to see Elon's snarky face once, OK?

@Gargron Certainly nice to be on a site that's improving while all the others are in a race to develop the worst user experience possible.

@Gargron Hopefully they will be available via the API. πŸ™‚

@Gargron one suggestion: make the font a bit smaller so more words get in. (This screenshot is from Safari on iOS. I am zoomed in to 125% because I have old eyes, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who does that.) I’ve designed many systems like this and I know the temptation to make a big headline font, but people will understand it’s a headline because of the rest of the design even if the font size is only a little bit larger than the body size.

@Gargron Looks much better. Links are an important part of the web. Good that you agree with that. While the other guy on the single letter app, reduces visibility of posts with links.

@Gargron I just wish that if it was a link to another toot, it showed the whole toot without my having to click instead of the current behavior.
