Hahaha. Looks like a 90s Indy rock album cover...

@mwl I don't know, maybe the goose has an warmhearted purpose for wanting in, like, to scare away the intruder that's hiding in the bathroom.

Hey everyone! #vultr just enshittified!

They re claiming ownership of all intellectual property you host on their VMs.

grimgreenfo.rest/notes/9rdle0u

Clear violation of copyright law.

[edit: muting this. I got too much to do. Like moving servers. And too many of you don't understand that contracts must be read as a hostile, abusive, manipulative party would interpret them. I've worked with too many bastards who did exactly that and got away with it. Capitalism is not polite.]

@mwl

I mean, to start with, quit using US headquartered providers.

People recommending Linode, Digital Ocean, AWS, etc ... these are all just more Silicon Valley companies waiting for their turn to enshitify their customers.

Continuing to host your stuff on US providers, it's just a matter of time before they all screw you over.

There are plenty of good, reliable, EU providers that operate under (at least comparatively-speaking) respectful business rules.

Personally, I use #Upcloud (Finland) and #Infomaniaks (Switzerland), but there are many others ... Germany, the Neth, and Iceland, in particular, have several good, big-name providers.

@mwl
Who would have thought that a company called "vulture" would behave like that.

Email #sysadmin folks:

The Sieve docs say that all filtered folders are children of INBOX.

That's not how I filter my email. Most often, I create primary folders for categories like "OpenBSD," "FreeBSD," etc, then create subfolders for those.

Is the "child of inbox" thing important? Am I missing something here?

My blog now has an archive page. mwl.io/archives/23337

Not that anyone but me will use it.

@mwl I've never heard of this website before, but it might just be my new hyperfocus. Thank you!

batty.bat

@mwl love the idea of using them to power fans. Feel so silly that it never crossed my mind

Dear creators:

please, please, PLEASE set up your own web sites and distribute your work from there.

If you post your work only on Twitter and/or Reddit, it's gonna disappear. Soon.

@mwl it makes me sad thinking about how much internet culture is going to be lost over the next few years from all the centralised platforms.

@mwl Off topic but please put your fixes or notation anywhere else like github or a webpage. Just somewhere else other than reddit (or archive your thread)

Red Knight

@mwl what client (is that the right word?) do you suggest? I've seen neocities suggested a few times but what do you think?

If we've ever met in person and you've wondered "Gee, how did he get this way," I finally have a solid answer.

@mwl I'm a fan of the old despair.com poster: "That which does not kill me only postpones the inevitable."

RyeNCode

@mwl totally misread that as "That witch did not kill me..."
And honestly, is also likely true.

Michael W Lucas¹ :flan_mail:

oh, right. Marketing. I'm supposed to do promotion and stuff here.

Ugh. Fine.

"Books are cool! Buy books!"

There. Done.
