2023/10/30: I quit for awhile here. Guess I'm back now. Probably.

I quit eating meat 9 years ago for the Climate, literally "until they can grow it in a lab". Never been on FB, Twitter, etc; quit Google in 2006.
I review follow requests; if I cannot look at your bio and history and easily tell you're human (and not a nazi/4chan/loli), you're not getting approved.
I think we're witnessing / experiencing a "Kessler Syndrome" of the #Internet.
#KesslerSyndrome is a cascade effect that can happen in Earth orbit, where there's so much junk and debris flying around, that it keeps hitting/destroying satellites and producing more debris, faster than the existing debris is cleaned up.
It could make it impossible for humans to launch anything into space for generations, and it's a serious risk.
It's not a perfect analogy, but AI-enhanced spam is turning the Internet into a garbage-filled wasteland, where the existing garbage keeps spawning more garbage faster than anyone can hope to clean it up.

@ErictheCerise I continue to be in awe of Neal Stephenson's novel Anathem, which was published in 2008 (one year after the first iPhone launched), and which takes place in a world where everyone is glued to their phones 24/7 and their internet is almost entirely AI-generated garbage, but they built AI tools for surfacing the non-garbage so it's barely usable. The man is a prophet.
I started out saying this as a joke, but gradually, over time, I've come to realize it's actually accurate.
The true solution to almost all "trolley car" problems is to find who keeps tying people to the tracks.
In trolley car problems, the people tied to the tracks always represent some disadvantaged sector of society — poor people, homeless people, no healthcare, minorites, etc — or even just (pardon the expression) "regular" lower class people.
And the "problem" is always "do you let those people be run over in order to save a billionaire, or a corporation, or the banking industry, or some sector of the economy, etc.
And again ... why are those people tied to the tracks in the first place? What is wrong with our economy/society/legal system, that we have those people stuck in those disadvantaged positions?
So the next time you see a trolley car problem — even the comedy/shitpost/joke problems — ask yourself, "who are those people tied to the track, and how did they get there in the first place?

@ErictheCerise Ha! You are so right. I am actually teaching an Ethical Leadership class now (well, not now now, we are on a break). I ll definitely use this with my students.
