I'm terrible at self promotion, so just imagine I wrote something witty here. Twitter finally announced their “Basic" API access. Completely useless as expected. Things of note:

@paul hilariously, whenever I have to try to purchase a part for a Tesla solar system that needs repair, that can only be "ordered" through a Google Form as well. 💀 And I never hear back from them ever At this point they could as well not offer an official API and people who really need it would reverse engineer their way through. Any sufficiently terrible feature is indistinguishable from a bug.

@paul This! Starting May 15th, only verified accounts will be able to not follow my @elonmusk account. The is the only realistic way to address my waning popularity. It is otherwise a hopeless losing battle. Replying to me will require verification for same reason.

I'm confused this article talks about how you'll be able to show/hide the blue checkmark, but totally ignores the “government ID" requirement? Is that not the far bigger story? Also how gullible do you have to be to actually pay $ just so your ID can be included in the, sure to be coming soon, data breach?

The prioritizing of Blue subscribers in other uers' timelines will be attractive mostly to those who expect a monetary return from their tweets: chiefly promoters of scams... @paul IDs were originally a part of the verification process at the very beginning years ago. It isn’t being discussed more probably because that isn’t a new part of the process. @paul I think this onboarding update ended up coming out pretty nicely. Let's you create a new account without a lot of fuss. LOL even TweetDeck & t.co are down!

@paul Truly the best app. Man, I can't count the times I've reflexively tried opening Tweetbot these past few days, only to be reminded of the dangers of combining extreme wealth with callousness. I want to publicly apologize to Twitter for breaking its long-standing API rule of _______.

[DATA EXPUNGED]
Finally some clarity we apparently broke the long standing rule of "use or access the Licensed Materials to create or attempt to create a substitute or similar service or product to the Twitter Applications”. I guess I didn't realize long standing actually means a couple hours ago, once again I'm deeply sorry. https://www.engadget.com/twitter-new-developer-terms-ban-third-party-clients-211247096.html

@paul I was able to use Tweetbot for a short bit, now it says it can’t authenticate me. This is some BS. DF has a good summation of this latest revelation. https://daringfireball.net/linked/2023/01/14/information-twitter-slack-confirmation Even without these leaks if you add up the lack of communication, only impacting the top 25-50 Twitter API clients and clients showing up as suspended in the dev. dashboard. The only conclusion at this point is that it was intentional and not any kind of bug. For the record, still no official or even unofficial communication from anyone within Twitter. Almost 24 hours later and still no official/unofficial info from inside Twitter. I'm going to continue as if this was all done on purpose. What now? Ivory goes into hyper mode with just the absolute minimum 3-4 things that have to be done finished up and then off to Apple. Probably going to be a bunch of things I'm not super happy with but I guess we'll fix it in post. Hopefully everyone knows what we're capable of and can live with some, hopefully not long lived, rough edges/missing features. I think the thing that bothers me the most is the lack of communications. If you are going to kill people off, own it. Don't just do it and act like nothing has happened. Even during the darkest Twitter 1.0 days they were pretty open about what they were doing. I remember getting a call prior to the 4 quadrants token limit where they explained what was going to happen and answered questions. I wasn't happy but at least felt there was respect.

@paul good thing the security of that API was improved by ::checks notes:: enumerated verified status

@paul could have saved me a few minutes of refreshing if only the Fediverse would be a little more realtime 😀

@paul just as this ex employee predicted https://twitter.com/stevekrenzel/status/1589700721121058817 Elon has no scruples, and will do anything make money off users data

@paul I don’t know where the line to get on the TestFlight for that is, but I would like to. 12
