I love the #fediverse because I can call you weird without getting banned In fact, I encourage you to be weird! The fedi is a place for weirdos, misfits, and all sorts of interesting people who don't quite fit in anywhere else It's people like you that make the fedi so magical, to a degree that Meta feels obligated to participate or be left behind Makes you think, eh

 @dansup To be honest, 'weird' is one label I don't mind being taken away from me 😁 (in the current-happenings context, at least). But I get what you mean. It's nice to see all the unique things people are up to here, and I feel like this place is better about letting me stumble into them than most. I learned a lot since joining here and I think it's made me a happier person offline in some ways.  Thank you. I needed to read that. Recently I've run into some very nasty vicious people who want to define acceptable to be only precisely what they think.

 @dansup my headcannon it’s that they are just jealous: if they can’t have it, like petty children, no one can I know that there are a few people who dislike me for whatever reasons, and I'm okay with that But when I enter another fedi project chat, I make it clear that I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable with my presence, and that we can chat via Issues if the maintainer prefers Respect means a lot to me and it goes both ways!  @dansup I don't really get why people don't like you on the level that it makes them uncomfortable to be in a chat group with you. I feel like @Gargron also sometimes get some unjustified level of dislike. I respect both of you for the things you do. I hope you don't take it too personal if some people dislike you. Maybe that is just unavoidable once you are interacting with a certain number of people. You can't make everyone happy. @pixelfed Also do feel free to suggest more improvements or call me out on specific problems and I will do my best to prioritize and accommodate your feedback and requests granted they are reasonable and actionable! As developers, it’s our responsibility to take a proactive approach to safety and moderation, and while I don’t have the resources that some other projects do, I have dropped the ball in this regard so I’m focused on improving this in Pixelfed and would love your feedback! ❤️   Do take care of your own welfare. You deserve safety too.   The internet can be homophobic. The internet can be racist. Most fediverse developers have privilege. We have a responsibility to use that privilege to build a better, more inclusive online space. Let's start listening to marginalized voices, amplify their experiences, and work together to create a Fediverse where everyone feels safe and welcome.

 @dansup The only phobia I have is covid phobia. Gender preferences shouldn't scare anyone. On the pickleball court yesterday a man asked if another gentleman could join the gay trio and people got all pissy about it. People are evil. It's childish. Working on some federation bug fixes for account migrations and groups, as well as a new mobile app build! We’re writing a FEP for our federated Comment Controls feature too! ICYMI: Pixelfed supports server blocklist import/exporting, similar to Mastodon. We even wrote a simple tool to convert Mastodon blocklists to Pixelfed format and vice versa! |
