Anyone remember Farmville? Facebook did pioneer social media integration with gaming and 3rd party developers/apps I know they cracked down on 3rd party apps after Cambridge Analytica, but we could replicate something like this using limited oauth scopes so apps couldn't abuse access and otherwise store data they shouldn't be. It would be pretty cool to be able to leverage ActivityPub in games in a social context, like competing with your friends on the PixelfedFarmVillage game What u think?

@dansup I've been working for some time now in a competitive game using activitypub, but still in very early development since I dont have too much time to work on it https://dev.to/ropoko/welcome-to-wild-league-2gdl I'm thinking of a whole new approach to comments in @pixelfed Imagine being able to delegate the ability to delete comments (on your posts) to your trusted friends Or hide or reject comments containing a specific keyword But not least, using privacy preserving sentiment analysis to automatically hide posts if you choose We can take this in a whole new direction with proper comment controls, and proper mod tools based on your feedback! Please Boost and give feedback on how we can improve ✨

I love Digital Ocean ❤️ I ran into some unexpected financial issues in late June and was able to work with them until my banking issues were resolved They never terminated or shutdown my servers due to lack of payment, and I'm so thankful for their understanding! Use the link below to get a free $200 credit on Digital Ocean and to help fund @pixelfed server costs That's nice to them, one bad thing about OVH is you miss your payment and they put up the firewall the same minute 😂
@lwflouisa @nebula Thanks for responding. I wonder if we set a reasonable limit of 200 or 250 max accounts per block list, if that would solve this issue, as it would make it less desirable to abuse you described, while also allowing for legitimate use. Please let us know if that is something you think could resolve your worries, and if not, if you have other ideas on how to improve a feature like this to prevent abuse, do let us know. We want to get it right, and your opinion matters a lot ❤️

@dansup have you written a blog post? Apparently not on https://pixelfed.blog/ anywhere else? Imagine being able to create, share and subscribe to blocklists that auto update when the blocklist author adds/removes entries. Sounds too good to be true eh? ✨

@pixelfed Sounds like a recipe for pileons to me. Time and time again we see bad actors getting control of blocklists. Edit: This requires some careful thought before proceeding, I'm thinking we could provide an option to recycle the username during deletion, or reserve it for the original account creator for 90 days. Safe to say, I haven't decided yet! I get a lot of requests for people wanting to re-join pixelfed.social after permanently deleting their account. Maybe usernames should be re-usable after a period of 30 days.

@dansup I just wish I could use the pixel fed android app to post photos, but it says pixelfed.social is running an old version of the software 😔 @dansup blocklists are a good example why reused usernames could cause difficulties. Isn't Artemis going to eventually result in there being one? SpaceX with their huge reusable rockets will sure help too. @evan semi-related: for people who daydream about spending significant amounts of time on other planets or in orbit, there is a brilliant episode of The Daily demystifying what the experience would be like: "The Bodily Indignities of Space Life" nytimes.com/2023/12/10/podcast… Listening to it makes me appreciate life on earth so much more! I think of it every time I take a nice long shower or when I enjoy a delicious meal followed by a walk outside The one thing I keep forgetting is how Europeans take compliments as awkward and uncomfortable Like it's so different in Canada, it's rude not to give compliments in some situations I'm sorry if I give too many compliments, I'm Canadian 😅 @dansup As an European I can tell you I really don't mind getting compliments and find myself that we should praise the people around us more. I think the problem with compliments for us often lies more in fact that we give compliments to close people and we get suspicious when a stranger (who doesn't know anything about us) compliments us. Especially from US Americans where terms like "awesome" and "great" in conversations feels overused and this devalues the compliment itself for us. @dansup in Europe if somebody focuses on the positive instead of the negative, that's immediately suspicious xD there is an indescribable sensation of joy when you approach another #fediverse project with the goal of collaboration on a specific feature and it's mutual Gosh I love the #fediverse ❤️ Pixelfed can move more quickly than Mastodon because we are smaller, and I'm the single developer of the whole stack This is rare in the fediverse (that a single dev can do frontend/backend and app dev), so please don't compare Pixelfed's new Moderation Update features to Mastodon because it's not fair Mastodon has millions of users, Pixelfed has less than 1m users Progress takes time, but we're well on our way 🚀 "Mastodon doesn't care about moderation tools" Hey you, yeah you, let me explain this from the perspective of a fellow fedi dev Mastodon isn't a single dev project anymore, it powers a whole ecosystem of 3rd party apps, clients and integrations When implementing complex new moderation tools, they have to do so in a way that guarantees stability and interop (for everyone) It's not as simple as you think, they kinda need an iOS Dev to implement these new features right? Please remember this! @dansup i respectfully dont agree with you. As a de facto central dev authority they can just 1-code properly to avoid breakage of 3rd party apps because of the new features , and 2-just publish an update notice and everyone will follow. I want to avoid false reasons based on potential technical incompetence. It is fair to make demands of governments and businesses. They set themselves up for that. Making demands of volunteers on a community project is bullying, pure and simple. Being on the right side of the argument does not give a licence to bully. End of. I've seen my fair share of criticism, and have always tried to respond with a respectful desire to fix said issues! I've even reached out to my harshest critics, and they blocked and ignored me. Actions speak louder than words; let's participate and make progress, but most of all, let's put the ego aside. We're all on the same team, let's not forget that ❤️

[DATA EXPUNGED]
@dansup as others have mentioned, there will always be hate but there is also support. Your contributions to the Fedi are remarkable and you seem to be very approachable and willing to collaborate. Unfortunately some will never get along and I hope they don't plague your mind. Your contribution matters. Canadian Fediverse History: 2008 - @evan created the fediverse 2018 - @dansup@pixelfed.social created Pixelfed 2024 - You are here Pretty iconic, don't sleep on 🇨🇦 eh

updated the old bio, in case it wasn't clear I'm Canadian I'm sorry I didn't make that clearer 💅 I love the #fediverse because I can call you weird without getting banned In fact, I encourage you to be weird! The fedi is a place for weirdos, misfits, and all sorts of interesting people who don't quite fit in anywhere else It's people like you that make the fedi so magical, to a degree that Meta feels obligated to participate or be left behind Makes you think, eh

@dansup To be honest, 'weird' is one label I don't mind being taken away from me 😁 (in the current-happenings context, at least). But I get what you mean. It's nice to see all the unique things people are up to here, and I feel like this place is better about letting me stumble into them than most. I learned a lot since joining here and I think it's made me a happier person offline in some ways. Thank you. I needed to read that. Recently I've run into some very nasty vicious people who want to define acceptable to be only precisely what they think. |
