Anyone remember Farmville?

Facebook did pioneer social media integration with gaming and 3rd party developers/apps

I know they cracked down on 3rd party apps after Cambridge Analytica, but we could replicate something like this using limited oauth scopes so apps couldn't abuse access and otherwise store data they shouldn't be.

It would be pretty cool to be able to leverage ActivityPub in games in a social context, like competing with your friends on the PixelfedFarmVillage game

What u think?

@dansup
I would keep the app about the app.

And not turn it into a circus.

@dansup The catch is AGPL which is actually nice. Since if somebody will make such games for Fediverse it will be all #FreeSoftware and therefor amazing. But how do we encourage people to make #FreeSoftware games?

@dansup the co-author of the ActivityPub protocol @cwebber is currently working on a new programming system that would allow for this. It is called "Goblins".

Your mention of "Farmville" is apt, because one of the Goblins developer's more recent tech demos is a networked game about gardening by @dthompson It is a simple game made in 48 hours, but shows off some of the features of Goblins.

@dansup
Wasn't Farmville infamous for getting people to post constant nags for help in their game? Nobody wants that.
