I was wrong. What I thought was a malicious chat regarding @pixelfed AI-spam, and how to abuse it, was taken out of context And I made a big mess trying to call out that person Only to just now to see a message they posted right after that I missed And now I realize they weren't acting in a malicious attempt, but rather the opposite I feel so bad, so I publicly apologized, and thankfully they accepted I will do better "Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Be afraid not to learn from them." There are fundamental problems to our federated ecosystem that will become more evident as time passes Most of them boil down to features and safety measures to protect users Or the lack thereof I don't need some org or dev chat to validate my ideas or progress I make history with each new path @pixelfed, @supapp, @loops and @pubkit takes Fellow fedi devs: It's okay to go alone, don't let the legacy impl hold you back! I'm very driven, and can't count how many friendships and relationships I've lost because I can be too direct sometimes It reminds me of those Lorde lyrics "If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail." "The future depends on what you do today." "The only way to predict the future is to create it." I think our ActivityPub network will struggle with AI-based spam to a degree that will require adversarial detection at least, requiring resources that are out of reach for most instances. This will lead to a curated onboarding mentality for most instances that don't have resources to detect bots, driving more new users to bigger instances, making them even more prevalent. How do we fix this? Together. With a trusted/optional and free service for all. I'm building this, join me!

@dansup I saw this which might offer a way to identify bots. Not sure how reliably it could be done on a programmatic basis. It's wild to think of where the internet will be in 100 years, and if this whole fediverse thing will evolve into something even bigger See, the #fediverse is playing the long game, just like other influential protocols before it When you have industry titans like Meta on your side, it do really make you think ⬇️ Post your thoughts on where you think we'll be in 100 years, and don't forget to boost this! Personally, I think the internet will still exist in some form, with an interplanetary network that connects to the Moon and Mars bases We can't imagine the tech that will exist then, but I think it's safe to say the social media landscape would be quite different in ways that's hard to envision Tbh, I hope we see life extending drugs so we can witness this first hand, because we are living in such a pivotal time and if there was some way I could be an astronaut, I'd leave this behind in a min We're building Pixelfed together, and that means prioritizing the tools that empower our community to create a safe and welcoming space. Y'all have more influence than you realize, so make an impact and help improve our platform with your feedback. There's a difference between pushing forward and burning out. That's why I'm stepping back from strict deadlines and arbitrary release dates. Pixelfed is a genuine community, not a business model. We take the time to ensure Pixelfed is authentic and reflects the values of our community. If that means delaying the release of the app to ensure proper safety tools, we'll do it without hesitation. Together, we can create something truly special, and thanks for being part of this journey! ❤️

@dansup good on you. If anyone gets pushy with schedules I bet it’s because they are excited about the platform and want to see it succeed but can’t communicate that in a respectful way. You always come first ❤️ @dansup everything is a product of its time and place, if you want it to reach a certain place in the world, take the time you need I know it seems like I've been quieter than usual, but that's because I'm working on: - Group federation bug fixes And I'm hoping to wrap these up this week so I can switch gears and prepare Loops and Sup for release this weekend ✨ YSK: Most common Pixelfed installation problems are usually related to simple configuration or permission issues. If you ever experience any issues during the install process, you can join or Matrix or Discord channels and ping @dansup for help The links are in our bio, and we are working to make this experience more seamless ✨ I was surprised to see Vultures 2 was dropped without notice, but like Playboi Carti's much anticipated 2024 album, the hype has died out I thought Vultures or 2024 would be my fav album of 2024, until I discovered Charli XCX and Brat We have a small gift for the #Fediverse today: over the past 8 months, we've been building an icon library for various decentralized social platforms and protocols within the space. It's an ongoing effort, and we're happy to release our initial version today. It's like Font Awesome, but for the Social Web!
https://wedistribute.org/2024/08/decentralized-social-icons/ The total fediverse MAU on https://fedidb.org does not include Misskey (which would give a noticeable boost) @syuilo please consider adding MAU to Misskey! https://github.com/misskey-dev/misskey/issues/10852#issuecomment-2274932577 There's also one thing that annoys me about Misskey and Pleroma. They don't return the Wow, my feed on @pixelfed it’s like… chef’s kiss ❤️ |
@dansup Any hint what I need to do to get most current PixelFed and Loops app for Android?
@dansup As in IG Reels / TikTok?
