To be honest, I don't need the 20th messenger, which will soon be banned or forced to break encryption in Europe anyway thanks to chat control. It would be better to have a ready-made Pixelfed app that any newcomer can simply download from FDroid. Or perhaps loops. @pixelfed What is your unique value proposition for a new messenger? Or is it another case of standards (https://xkcd.com/927/)? TestFlight users on pixelfed.social will gain early access to our upcoming Live streaming feature! We're in the process of rolling out Push Notifications, so make sure you have them enabled ✨

@pixelfed whoah! Awesome! What tech is powering the streaming? Is it also OSS or in the Fediverse? (been trying to figure this out myself, FWIW) Updated https://fedidb.org/popular-fediverse-accounts with a bunch of new threads users, and fixed the threads avatar issue! We'll soon be serving cached avatars from our own CDN ✨ @dansup is there a feature planned, to filter threads users from the list? The fediverse integration of threads is still pretty limited and most of the users, that contribute to the shown follower numbers are in fact not part of the fediverse. Also the fact, that a lot of instances have blocked threads makes the first couple of pages of the popular fediverse accounts non-representative of the experience of a lot of people. @dansup Picking a random selection, some of these people have not used the fediverse in one or two years. Seems pointless listing them! Updated https://fedidb.org software versions to more clearly indicate you can filter software by version to see exactly which servers run a specific version! See for yourself: https://fedidb.org/software/mastodon?version=4.2.10 Would it be possible to add a "last active" filter to the "popular accounts" tab? It is a bit frustrating to see so many deserted ruins ranking so high. Just updated https://fedidb.org to fix server search results, we now include servers last seen within past 30 days with more than 5 users! @dansup hey is there a reason for the more than five users condition? we're implementing #activitypub for static websites and most will have a single user (the website itself). probably wordpress and ghost implement it similarly? I also added docs for the new api/v1/popular-accounts endpoint ;) Updated https://fedidb.org software versions to more clearly indicate you can filter software by version to see exactly which servers run a specific version! Preparing the Push Notifications test on pixelfed.social + TestFlight https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/pull/5237 ✨ One of the things I want to improve in the @pixelfed app is when you tap on a post when viewing a profile or hashtag feed and get redirected to the post. What I'd like to do is add posts before and after that, with the active post centered to allow you to to more easily browse without having to go back and tap on the next one It's a bit complicated to do, but I think I have a good implementation, will need further testing, but this will def improve UX ✨ Android/Play Store beta testers will get Push Notifications support (for pixelfed.social) a bit later due to their longer app review periods. It shouldn't take longer than 24h for it to roll out to our android beta testers, so don't feel left out, When I mention iOS or Android you have to remember the code is the same and the only difference is the deployment/distribution |
