 This is your reminder... There is no algorithm that brings posts to your timeline. The only posts you will see under your Home tab will be either people that you follow, or the boosts from people that you follow. BOOSTING IS THE LIFE BLOOD OF MASTODON. If you read something that is interesting, funny, thought provoking, news worthy, or beautiful, then BOOST IT. Hitting "Favorite" lets the poster know that you liked it BUT IT DOESN'T LET ANYONE ELSE KNOW. Keep Mastodon alive. BOOST.

@Mrfunkedude The real horror is that none of those stalls appear to have a toilet paper dispenser. So semi-consensus is that they're LCD walls that go opaque. What happens if the power goes out? Great meme ! @Mrfunkedude  I'm no prude by any stretch of the word, but if you post a nude without a CW, I will block you. Male or female. I don't care. @Mrfunkedude Same. Given how often I access Fedi in public, a CW gives me the chance to quickly scroll by or at least make sure nobody can see over my shoulder & think I'm some perv. I mean, I am a perv, but the entire public doesn't need to know it. π @Mrfunkedude I had to stop following the LGBT hashtag because my feed was filling up with nudes. I enjoy NSFW content as much as the next adult, but not while I'm riding the bus with people standing over me. BlueSky is just corporate Mastodon. @Mrfunkedude after using twitter for many many years it took me a while to unlearn the algo driven feed. This is important and how I discover a lot of interesting / funny / thought provoking content. However, it does nothing to take you out of your bubble unless you seek out communities that hold different convictions / opinions than yours.
@Mrfunkedude @JugglingWithEggs Starring isnβt entirely invisible. I can see that ~175 people starred your post, and my client (Mona) lets me see who they are. I donβt immediately see a way to get from a user to that userβs starred posts; is that the βnot let[ting] anyone else knowβ you mean?

Actually hashtags are the lifeblood of the Fediverse. This isn't twitter. It's not a popularity contest. People curate their feed based on their interests, by subscribing to hashtags.
People who don't use hashtags and don't add alt text to images have missed the entire point of the Fediverse, which is information and conversation, not just pushing memes for engagement counts. If you want to succeed here you need to leave the twitter mentality behind.
In case you didn't know, there's a setting in your preferences to *not show* boosts of recent posts, and lots of people use it to avoid seeing the same articles and memes over and over all day.
If you want to build up your home page, subscribe to hashtags. That way you can follow people who talk about stuff you're actually interested in.
Also, boosting puts things on your *own* timeline that you don't necessarily want there. Likes / favorites are perfectly valid interactions.
