It's come to the point where I am really surprised when I buy a license for software and it's just a one time payment. And I almost feel guilty using the software for years.
Example is Launchbar. I paid once in 2007 (€9) and then for a major upgrade to version 6 in 2015 (don't remember the amount, around $20). So that's a total of less than 40 bucks for a tool I use dozens of times a day, for 15 years now. I spend more on Spotify in 3 months.
In #TheNetherlands, the earth had to sink up to 40cm before gov decided (under immense public pressure) to shut down exploitation of natural gas fields. I wonder, with lax regulations in Texas, how long the industry will able / allowed to sustain this practice.
The big difference here is that these oil fields are in very remote areas, out of sight out of mind, affecting few people. My guess is only a dramatic decrease in oil prices will slow this extraction down.
