Loops originally shipped as a @pixelfed feature in 2019. It lasted a few months and was removed due to lack of use and a bad UI/UX. Then in 2023, I revived this project and separated it from @pixelfed and began building the app. Then I build another version in late 2023, they both sucked. That lead to v4 earlier this year which lead to the current v5 (a full rewrite using newArch, expo-router) It's gone through many iterations, I think I finally nailed it ✨

 @dansup @pixelfed I hope someday I'll be able to upload my first video.  @dansup Separating it is the best you could do. These days, everyone wants to be be-all-end-all app. We don't need that There are 3 important components to Loops: 1) Capture & Composing 2) Transcoding & Fan-out 3) Loops UI/Pages I'm almost done 2 & 3 and hope to ship Loops in beta very soon!  @dansup i like this but almost seems like its own social media. Might as well bring back MicroUI and make pixelfed social media for everything 😊   @dansup 🎵 It ain’t my fault that I'm out here gettin’ loose, gotta blame it on my loops, blame it blame it on my loops 🎵 The Session developer was chased out of Australia due to his encrypted messaging app. This has me rethinking Sup, I live in Canada, but do not want to go against the RCMP. I'm not saying Sup is dead, it's pretty much ready, however, I may need to rethink how we approach this.  The best revenge is success. Hate or love me, you can't ignore the impact I've made, and that's what matters. I ❤️ people, and my actions speak for themselves. Just remember this as Loops grows, because there are vested interests that want to see us fail. We won't fail 🚀

  @catsalad I tried to upload one. But 209MB is to big and I've no idea how I can compress the 58 seconds video on android. Could this happen anywhere else? Two social media competitors collaborating, to this degree? ActivityPub isn't just different, it's the future. The future where people are prioritized, not profited from. IMHO there is no competition in the fediverse. To be interoperable you need multiple actors. This is going to make the protocol more healthy and fair for everyone.  @dansup competition does not exclude collaboration. If it does, you're doing it wrong. Collaboration is the only path forward. I've made some remarks about my distaste for BlueSky in the technical sense But when it comes down to it, ActivityPub, BlueSky, Nostr and other social protocols will become increasingly important due to recent events It's no longer us vs them, they are us, and we need to collaborate and leverage our expertise for the benefit of humanity Sometimes the fight takes a while, but we will not give up The future of the social web depends on us ❤️  @dansup Counterpoint. #BlueSky and #Threads (and ALL #DTBOs) are part of the problem, and will NOT be of any help, because they are both owned by a group of people eager to kiss the ring of fascists, as long as they are able to make huge profits off the software platform. And they will do just that. BlueSky is already partly owned by VC crypto bros. Threads' owner is Zuck. Nuff said. If anyone is still at threads or bs, they might as well go back to xitter or facebook. @dansup the problem with this thought is that bluesky social network is just a reference implementation and BSKY is only using it as means to an end (their company is not actually cored on running the site, it's just a reference at proto implementation- if another one pops up, they'll just ask easily abandon bluesky) Loops did steal the well deserved thunder of @vidzy, and that wasn't my intention. I wasn't aware of that project until after I started Loops. Collaboration over competition is what makes the fediverse unique, and I will use my platform and skills to not only spread the word about #Vidzy, but also work with their devs on compatibility. This is the magic of the fediverse, no other protocol can compete ✨ @pixel I wasn’t expecting this, and even though it violates our ToS, I do believe that APIs should be open. Officially I’m not impressed, unofficially I am impressed and won’t hinder unauthorized 3rd party access. Btw, you and @h should help me define the v1 schema, I’m aware of 3 devs who plan to build 3rd party clients and would love your help in an official fashion! This would normally lead to legal action, but here in the fediverse, you are doing my work for me ✨ It was bring your kid to work day, and my niece picked me and asked if I can help her get into design and animation. We had an amazing day, and even though I'm not skilled in those areas, I'm the only tech adjacent member of my family, I installed After Effects on my old M1 Air and she had a blast. She asked if she could come over on weekends, and I said yes, but realistically that won't work because I stay up late and code, so I will lend her my old M1 until hers gets fixed. Made my month 🥹

I've seen a few reports about it being flagged as malware, and it's a false positive. The sideloadable APKs are only temporary! And you can verify it is the same APK by checking the hash on https://loops.video/help-center/onboarding and comparing it with the virustotal page, or by downloading the APK and running `shasum -a 256 v1.0.0.7-0152a7fe-4b84-4b1a-bac0-6fc54a71aafa.apk` So there are about 160 videos that haven't processed on loops.video from the huge surge, so I am manually processing them now and improving our transcoding pipeline to better handle the increased demand!

Any hope for a post scheduling feature? Like a post queue? So many photographers work in batches but the nature of their workflows but want to spread out the sharing of content over time.
I would post so much more if this existed. I'd still engage plenty. Probably more (this is how Tumblr works for me now)
@dansup hey, I keep trying pixelfed but the login button on web (ffox android) does nothing when pressed. On pixeldroid the home tab scrolls for a hit but quickly runs out of content. Don't know if that's deliberate?
