Remember to follow the Community Guidelines of https://loops.video or you may lose access ✨ So the way Loops works is when you upload a video, you get redirected to the main feed with a message saying the video is being processed. Well a few people have uploaded the same video multiple times, I think maybe because they are confused, so I will implement hashing and caching to prevent you from uploading the same file within 24 hours.

@dansup Hello! Thanks for creating Loops! I really like it! In the future, do you intend for Loops to be able to edit videos (be able to join different clips, add transitions, effects, text, etc.)? It happens that, in open source, there is no such video editor yet. It would be magnific! Congratulations and thanks for the work! @dansup Can you please handle a scenario where an upload fails that the user can try again? I've had some video uploads fail to post this week with "Error". @dansup I keep getting an error saying “the credentials are incorrect” when trying to upload a video using the Test Flight app I’ve started building the FYP algorithm for @loops Cleverly simple, and optimized for both small and large servers, it will usher in a new curated and algorithmic age in the fediverse! While it may not be the first algorithmic feed, it will be the most powerful, and aims to provide a next level federated experience for newcomers and existing fediverse users alike. @dansup How is the current feed actually put together? Are the users I follow taken into account, or is it a global feed?

@dansup may I suggest adding people with straight sexual orientation as a risk group? Based on my experience, I would say it's necessary. @dansup Definitely in. Enjoying it, and contributing ideas and bug reports along the way. Loops could be the first experience of ActivityPub federation for many people. That's why I'm focusing on public share links, easier onboarding and invites. The ideal fediverse app is one that hides the complexity of federation while embracing it. Like being able to invite your friends with a single link, all they need to do is provide their email and desired username and we'll onboard them and they will follow your account automatically. You can have viral growth without sacrificing privacy

@dansup what I don't get about loops is that the feed is chronological. @dansup awesome! BTW, found a bug. Can't change profile pic. If one was set, no matter how many times I try, it doesn't (Android) Is the storage expectations for self-hosting ATProto including a relay really 5tb (with the expectation also that this will grow)? https://alice.bsky.sh/post/3laega7icmi2q On Linode's default shared hosting that's getting into a full salary, like $55k/year, territory https://www.linode.com/pricing/ Is this right?

@cwebber God this reminds me of the stupid blockchain stuff Was it the ethereum guy who said “85 TB/year is totally fine” or something Madness @cwebber Yeah, more or less. You're certainly not missing anything major in your analysis. Running a relay is already extremely expensive, and the cost of that is likely to explode if the number of app view services increases. Running an app view is also very expensive, and the cost will likely climb rapidly if there's ever more than 1 mainstream relay you have to subscribe to. But hey, a PDS is barely more work than hosting a raw git repo, so it must be decentralized, right? @cwebber@octodon.social I don't know if you really need that much for ATProto, but I just want to point out that Linode's storage prices, as much as I like them for hosting, are not cheap. Not everyone has unlimited 5G or wifi data, and I apologize for the bandwidth Loops has used! When we launched, we didn’t optimize videos, but now we do and it’s reduced bandwidth significantly, however we still can do better. I will work on better data usage control in the app. Also really enjoying loops so far! Looking forward to the future of loops :) Reminder that I'm still actively working on Pixelfed, not just Loops, and shipped some pretty cool features over the past few months, like Profile Carousels last month. https://pixelfed.social/dansup?carousel=1&clean=1&autoplay=1&interval=2500

@dansup Thanks for the great work. Any hope for a post scheduling feature? Like a post queue? So many photographers work in batches but the nature of their workflows but want to spread out the sharing of content over time. I would post so much more if this existed. I'd still engage plenty. Probably more (this is how Tumblr works for me now) @dansup hey, I keep trying pixelfed but the login button on web (ffox android) does nothing when pressed. On pixeldroid the home tab scrolls for a hit but quickly runs out of content. Don't know if that's deliberate? If you don't want to get feedback over masto, fair enough, please ignore 🙂. thanks for your work on what looks v promising! Sent a request to Resend to increase my email sending rate limit, 2 per second is too low for the combined load of loops.video and pixelfed.social @dansup Not sure what you are using, but try AWS SES, it requires a bit of work upfront but beats the competition Over the next several months, I am going to be working to help people who are on other networks get onto fediverse servers that are a good match for their needs. I am starting in what is probably the least efficient way:

@kissane This is great, thank you. Slight tangent - your site works so well without JS that my first attempt to subscribe failed silently without me noticing; on second visit, I remembered to fix NoScript and try again, which worked, obvs. Not entirely useful information, sorry. Anyway, ty.

I think that's the right decision. Only billion dollar companies want to make the one everything-app. @dansup personally I would love this feature. Those how would not want it could be able to disable it 🤷🏻♂️ Loops technically supports HDR before Pixelfed 😅 Experimental libvips support will be coming to Pixelfed this weekend, which will allow us to support a range of new formats and reduce overall resource usage ✨ |
@dansup odd that it doesn't specify which jurisdiction applies to the forbidden illegal activities. Can I depict someone publishing photos of public art? (legal in Germany, illegal in Sweden)
