I'm experimenting with new profile layouts in the new Pixelfed app. Which one do you prefer? (current, alt 1, alt 2)

How can we further improve Accessibility on the new Pixelfed app? Feedback and ideas greatly appreciated!

@dansup support LLaVA or similar model for alt-text generation describing images. The @IceCubesApp for Mastodon does this very well (see example image and auto generated alt text below) and may be worth a look. Also this article from @joe was useful for me in understanding where to start with this. https://jws.news/2024/how-can-you-use-llava-and-node-js-to-describe-an-image/ Seriously pissed about this. Offering $10,000 in seed funding for a Deviant Art alternative built on ActivityPub. Q&A below or email your pitch to info@moth.social. https://slate.com/technology/2024/05/deviantart-what-happened-ai-decline-lawsuit-stability.html

@bart Not surprising, especially since DA tried to not opt out with AI scanning the art for their "Art" Looking into a DeviantArt importer to Pixelfed, what perfect timing with Groups, Marketplace and upcoming Collection features ✨

@dansup Will the imported images automatically be set to unlisted with no way to change it like it does for the Instagram import?

@pixelfed what I loved about the old DeviantArt is that there was an actual menu and categories, rather than just search. DeviantArt is virtually unusable now since they removed the very comprehensive side menu. Especially for reference photos. @pixelfed Two features I miss are gallery folders and favorites lists. It's handy to be able to sort artworks into categories that don't quite work as searchable tags. (Especially since a lot of pixelfed.art users seem to tag for search/visibility rather than semantics.) I loved being able to browse an artist's faves and see what art/artists excited them. I think the new Collections feature is one of these but I haven't followed closely enough to know. @pixelfed One thing I *wished* dA had was an easy way to view galleries chronologically. I will argue for pagination until the cows come home, but it only does so much good if you bookmark a page and what's on that page changes because the artist uploaded a bunch. Pixelfed Groups will bring a whole new dimension and experience, I can't wait to ship this monumental feature!

@dansup@mastodon.social Good lord. You shelling out features at quite a speed! :ravemonkey: @dansup How is the short video thingie going? I think a lot of people will find that one superb

There are over 8K LoC for Pixelfed Groups atm, and that will likely double in the coming months (mobile apps, federation, etc...) It's the most complex feature we've ever shipped, and we've pioneered several mod and safety tools to enable the best experience across Pixelfed instances Rest assured, I will show the fediverse how it's done 💅 Pixelfed Groups will be compatible with Lemmy, Smithereen and other platforms! Groups will be coming to our official mobile apps later this summer ✨ Pixelfed Groups will bring a whole new dimension and experience, I can't wait to ship this monumental feature!

Still working on the new Pixelfed app, and am looking forward to sharing a big update this week 👀 @dansup Do you have an idea when it's going to release on the Google Play Store? Currently using Pixeldroid from F-Droid. Reports are now finished in the new @pixelfed mobile app! This was one of those small but essential todo items. You may be surprised to know that Apple and Google require the ability to report user generated content if you have user generated content in your app There are also other requirements, like hiding adult content by default and allowing users to block other users on social network apps. Looking forward to shipping the app, gosh it's like so close!!! The new Pixelfed mobile app will preserve media aspect ratios, no need to tap to view the full image as photos will be rendered to preserve native aspect ratios😎

@dansup Looking really forward to that update! I found most bothering that even if I tap open a pic the viewport stays limited to the area it takes when fit to the screen by its width. Maybe that's fixable too? 😬 |
