@dansup This finally may be my incentive to ditch #instagram. Every day I am getting closer. No #ads and no #algorithm and an overall healthier #experience.

@dansup This finally may be my incentive to ditch #instagram. Every day I am getting closer. No #ads and no #algorithm and an overall healthier #experience. So I spent longer than expected working on the privacy settings in the new @pixelfed app I don't regret it, we have some pretty awesome privacy features! Looking forward to shipping the new mobile app, and working with artists, creatives and photogs to make our platform better for everyone. It's not who did it first, it's who did it right β¨

Instagram is testing a new feature called Ad Break, which introduces unskippable ads lasting 3-5 seconds. Currently in the testing phase with a small user base, there's no confirmed date for a wider rollout https://alternativeto.net/news/2024/6/instagram-tests-unskippable-ad-break-feature-with-3-5-second-countdown/

So Iβm working on a kind of PDS or relay for Pixelfed servers to discover trending content and help fill new instance timelines and profile suggestions! It will be based on content from and discovered by pixelfed.social, however Iβll be open sourcing the PDS (Pixelfed Discovery Server) so you can run your own for yourself or others It will be easy and intuitive, I hope to add more features to it later on, lots of potential β¨ @dansup can't wait for this, atm I basically follow you and some accounts I found on Mastodon. Would help a lot for my single-user server. The indieweb is pretty amazing! While you can already use the @pixelfed API to syndicate to your Pixelfed account from your own blog Wouldn't it be cool if you could syndicate from Pixelfed to your own server or even 3rd party service using webhooks and param placeholders so you can build the perfect webhook (example.org/api/webhook?caption=$caption&image_url=$mediaUrl) where $caption and $mediaUrl are populated by the backend This is something I will pursue if there is interest! We're adding a new setting to allow you to disable post and profile embeds! In case you weren't aware, Pixelfed does support Profile and Post embeds, allowing you to easily embed them on your own website β¨ Simply add /embed to the end of a profile or post url, like the examples below: Profile: pixelfed.social/dansup/embed Post: pixelfed.social/p/drake/692644068582758165/embed I can't prevent pixelfed forks, but I will do my best to accommodate feedback and feature requests, and encourage people to take on a more dedicated role within our project! We are stronger and better together! We really need a project manager type person to help me prioritize, so I can do what I do best and leave the community management to someone more skilled in that.

@dansup For big crazy ideas a fork can be better. It can be a friendly one for sure. And if it pans out I think a merge is good idea. I think thereβs been too many forks in anger, and weβd be better off with less of those imho. Also stale PRs make me sad. Love to see them either merged or rejected (I mean some arenβt good for various reasons). Good luck! @tothedaring Perhaps we can work together to improve the project, it's not that I have little desire to collaborate with people in the industry, quite the opposite, but I have my hands full writing code for the backend, frontend and other side projects. If you're open to it, maybe we can organize a public group chat/call on Matrix or Discord to we can discuss how we can improve the platform and make it more welcoming, along with setting some realistic goals regarding milestones. Are you down? Instagram confirms test of βunskippableβ ads "Instagram confirmed itβs testing unskippable ads after screenshots of the feature began circulating across social media." "βWeβre always testing formats that can drive value for advertisers,β a Meta company spokesperson told TechCrunch." Looks like it's time for people to move over to #Pixelfed :pixelfed: #Instagram #meta #tech #news #press #media #SocialMedia https://techcrunch.com/2024/06/03/instagram-confirms-test-of-unskippable-ads/ Edit: We're back! We're experiencing some issues with pixelfed.social, so we are doing some maintenance to improve stability. We should be back to 100% within the hour! @pixelfed

Centralized photo platform announces using data for training AI "Let's try out this other centralized platform with no plans of federation" π @dansup most people don't care about federation. They care about their art not being stolen. Federation doesn't solve this issue at all. I'm personally not moving to Cara, but the inclusion of Glaze is a nice addition. I also feel the need to remind people that Pixelfed Groups are an opt-in feature, you will never see group posts on the main timelines (home, network) Groups will have their own separate feed, and notifications too! While Groups will support text-only posts, outside of Groups, the existing photo/video attachment requirements for top level posts apply. Pixelfed remains focused on photo and video sharing, groups just extends this to support other mediums without an account on another platform I am looking forward to trying it out. My inability to find an adequate groups replacement is the only reason I am still on Facebook. I have a couple interest based groups that I manage there which I need to migrate off. When will you be releasing it? @dansup tbh it is weird to me that it's tied to a photo sharing service but I am looking forward to it either way |
@dansup does this also apply to images crafted by hand but using AI in their design / creative process? What if an artist creates parts on an image with AI but refines the rest by hand? I guess the latter feels more like deserving this flag as the former does. Then again you might want to also track works where AI played any part at all
@dansup
The only problem is that those things that are being called AI are not AI.
Anyway, nice idea.
(I think that "High Coherence Media Generator" is a better name)
@dansup The contrast is too low, it shouldnβt be so easy to miss.
