Spread the word + please boosties 🚀 I should have made it clear about Loops and the centralized service, that it would be an optional layer between the server and the fediverse, not you or users and the server. The Loops admins will have full control, and also own/store all local user data, the centralized service I mentioned just aims to help solve discovery and other common issues. No part of Loops will depend on a centralized service or component, and every part of Loops will be open source and AGPL licensed.  @feb no not centralized auth, but centralized auth features like being able to tell which server you are on. You would login to your server directly, the centralized features I mentioned would only be an optional layer between your server and the fedi, not you and your own server! I should have made that more clear.  @dansup @feb not particularly happy about the idea. I have some great personal news, we had to bring our cat and dog to the vet recently and I was so worried. Our cat was just dehydrated! (we were thinking it was so worse, only to find out his water fountain was to dirty for him) And my dog, my baby, my best friend: the vet said his lumps are fat deposits and that he is "slightly overweight" which I don't agree with, he is perfect. Anyways, it feels like a weight is lifted, our family is healthy 🥰 Not me balling my eyes out, forcing my partner to take my dog to the vet only for them to say he was just "fat" omg, i was so worried 😭  @dansup please listen to the vet about your dog's weight. it has a huge impact on their quality of life especially as they get older.  @dansup Despite our cats drinking from the fountain regularily we also always mix water into their wet food to avoid having to worry about them not drinking enough. When I was a kid I was obsessed with electronics and technology. I would take things apart just to see if I could put them back together. Then in 2016 I joined Mastodon and two years later started @pixelfed I was an autobody technician, and now I’m living my dream as a developer. And it’s thanks to you, the fediverse. You pushed me to believe in myself and become a better leader, dev and person. I am forever grateful and am dedicated to pushing the social web forward ❤️

  @kalisz79 How so? I think its pretty cool to have such a trusted and established developer like myself to steward and manage an initiative like this. What is your idea of the "fedi attitude" and how can I improve this? My goal is to build a federated TikTok alternative, and others have tried, but none have surpassed the amount of users we have in such a short time. I hope you respond with feedback, and look forward to resolving your concerns! We're in this together, and I need your help!

@dansup I don't feel the "centralized platform" idea tbh and the "algo" sounds like "anxiety" ;) I very much appreciate your overal approach and ideas for their potential of bringing some "fresh blood" to the Fediverse (being Pixelfed user and fan, with accounts on 2 instances and hoping that eventually it will replace instagram completely:)), however I'm not quite sure how could it work with the decentralized and bottom-up idea of the fedi itself?  "such a trusted and established developer like myself" Is everything okay? are you drowning in your own pride yet? with all due respect, this is bad. this is the best possible way to kill any trust you gathered before.  @dansup @kalisz79 Simply following others from a web link is still a tedious procedure on mastodon today, so I am open to any possible solutions. In this particular case I guess what you’d be offering is sort of like a service index ? to which instances could chose to publish updates or not. If so many others could run competitive “centers” and it’d still be ok as there’s always a way out. Loops isn't like other fediverse platforms. You can't expect to start a new Loops server with little content, and attract users. What are they supposed to watch? Nothing? For Loops to succeed in the federated model, you need to understand, we need a centralized service powered by content from loops.video, to seed new Loops servers and the FYP algo. Eventually admins will have enough data to serve their users, but it's important to recognize the need for this Loops is the future of the fedi

@dansup  @dansup couldn't a new server choose where to seed from instead of forcing it to be loops.video?=  @dansup Maybe admins could choose to effectively disconnect from the main source to, like, créateur an isolated, self-producing community, still setting the use of loops.video as default ? I am considering a Bluesky approach to @loops, but in ActivityPub! What I mean is that it will be vital to auth, discovery and the algorithmic FYP, for Loops to provide a centralized service and make it easy for users, while also allowing admins to opt-out and limit their Loops instance accordingly. We can have the best of both worlds, and who knows, we may even support native AtProto eventually! The goal is to empower short form video sharing, wherever possible! Are you with us? 🚀  @dansup

I got my welcome email almost 2 weeks ago, but still haven't received a TestFlight email.  There are actually quite a few statuses in the pf.soc db with invalid dates, and they will be fixed in the next update. We have two timestamp columns for statuses, created_at which we honor and updated_at which is set by us. We can use the updated_at values to restore the actual date. This doesn’t affect timelines as we use snowflake ids and only back date IG imports! Pixelfed has shipped a fix to validate timestamps from remote activities, rejecting any dates outside the range (-10 years and +1 day)   @dansup wait, why -10 years? not every object is freshly authored activitystreams... some objects might be historical, converted from a cms, or even just fetched 10+ years later without the activity. I got this error message when trying to set my display name to "Theresa O’Connor": "The display name you entered contains invalid characters. Please try again with only letters, numbers."  If you block an account on Loops, they will no longer have the ability to comment on your videos. You won't see their posts in the feed any longer, and we're working on remove their access to your videos and account. Last but not least, we will hide their comments on other videos, so they are invisible to you.
