when i was building a twitter client years ago, we had plans to create home screen widgets around the deadly sins. i still think it’s an absolute banger idea. Greed: follower count  i knew stealing every toiletry from every hotel i’ve stayed at for the past four years would come in clutch when stocking up a guest bathroom. btw pro tip: your complementary toiletries get thrown out when you check out, even if you leave them completely untouched. it’s a safety thing to make sure your toiletries don’t get tampered with. so you might as well take them and make use of them, otherwise it goes straight to the landfill.  https://thebesttweet.com by the numbers (as of right now): I'll post the raw data (+ the tweet corpus) in a repo on 1/1 if you want to pour through it yourself.   @samhenrigold Twitter has gone! It’s called 𝕏 now and that’s bigger and better than Twitter ever was. The American government doesn’t have control over it anymore.  @samhenrigold @jimray amazing! But I have a question why are there so many Shanley tweets with two or three likes in here? Some sort of control mechanism? i wanted to do a fun goofy lil web experiment. and now look at me. writing endpoints. groveling at the mercy of a fake linux box somewhere in northern virginia. i didn’t want any of this. i thought i could get away with a serverless function or two.  my great grandfather owned a deli in Stamford Connecticut. he produced something of value — roast beef. his descendant produces web apps and is being absolutely demolished by something called Supabase.  five years ago, I was diagnosed with ADHD. now, just a few years later, I still have debilitating attention deficit issues but now I’m responsible for paying income tax. never give up on your dreams in terms of bags fumbled, i would like a case study on how every youtuber shot with a canon DSLR and, because Canon kept dragging their feet on embracing video features (they didn’t have 4K for YEARS), everyone ditched them for Sony. realized i haven’t mentioned my dog here yet. this is max, he’s probably an australian cattle dog. he turned 15 at some point in August. he sleeps 22 hours a day and he’s going deaf and senile and i love him very much. a question for #accessibility and #webdev people: please tell me the best, most accessible and semantic way to construct a generic tweet/post item in HTML. are there tags/attributes I should be using, how should I deal with replies (article within an article?). i’m deeply out of the loop, please enlighten me. @samhenrigold How I embed (though now for Mastodon posts): Comparison of some general quoting techniques: Also, spectacular avatar. idk who needs to hear this but instance admins should not be blocking threads — that’s a terrible default. there are many opportunities to take a stand against big tech, but adding friction to people’s ability to freely communicate with others is not the place. let your users decide if they wanna block threads. if they feel strongly about it, chances are they can figure out how to block a domain themselves.

 @samhenrigold Yeah, I think maybe some smaller instances where there’s broad agreement that it should be done could get away with it, but if you’re a big instance with a broad range of people, I don’t think it’s a great move.  @samhenrigold I somewhat agree, and we won't defederate threads by default on our instance.  @samhenrigold my instance admin blocked them because they didn’t know if they would be able to handle the traffic or if it would drive their server costs up. i *get it* but like… that shouldn’t be an issue, from a technical level. the worst person you know will buy a vision pro and put the cheapest possible amazon screen protector over the outside screen  @samhenrigold One of those privacy protectors, where you can't see anything if you look at it sideways!  @samhenrigold I used to not remove the plastic that came on iPhones and use it as a screen protector! 🫣 Will this winter PTO break be the time when I finish this “Joe Biden Sings ‘About You Now’ by The Sugababes” remix?
