You can follow me more personally over at @ThePlant if thatโ€™s your thing ๐Ÿ˜˜

Can you move at least your personal your account somewhere other than mastodon.social? ๐Ÿค”

Real talk: all these constant Content Warnings bug me. And people who keep asking for them bug me. Itโ€™s irritating seeing them constantly for random stuff.

By all means use them for things that are in some way terrible but it feels like weโ€™re being forced to put things under a CW just because some people will get their knickers in a twist over what someone said.

Alt text reminders I get but the CW for an ever growing listโ€ฆannoying.

@gamingonlinux

On the whole, your GamingOnLinux account is pretty focused on the work described by the account name and I haven't noticed many your posts being off-topic. If people are mad about gaming on linux topics, maybe they shouldn't follow an account named gaming on linux?

There's also using CWs to warn people about spoilers, that's a not unreasonable use case.

My personal rule of thumb is to CW things that I think are likely to depress the people who I usually interact with.

So I think CWing things that regular news media tends to mark as sensitive such as real violence seems like a good policy. (Like photos of war zones, mass shootings, etc)

But people can also be unnecessarily demanding. I think mattblaze's at federate.social's complaints about someone wanting him to hash tag his black and white art was pretty excessive.

I think there's a fuzzy area of what about trend that lots of people have gotten sick of, like AI generated art or wordle.

I was ok with CWing the random pictures generated by craiyon/dall-e mini because they took up a lot of space and weren't really that interesting.

@gamingonlinux so far I've only used em twice, once for a seizure warning (thanks, Vanilla OS) and once for a Unabomber joke

@gamingonlinux on top of all the interesting takes here, itโ€™s hard to say what random things can trigger trauma responses. The smell of books of all things is one of mine because one of the traumatic things I went through happened in a library. That said, thereโ€™s some responsibility on my part to deal with that, and to ask everyone to cater to my needs is unrealistic and unreasonable.

@gamingonlinux itโ€™s utterly irrelevant, but I love the irony of the colors on that image not being blended properly. Either way, excited for HDR on Linux finally becoming a thing outside of like Kodi and mpv launched from a tty

Now and then my speakers do a little random pop on Fedora. Unsure what it is, it's like something on the system opens an audio source and the speakers ready to play or something - make sense?

How can I stop this random pop thing?

@gamingonlinux If this is the sound I think it is. It's phabricator.kde.org/T14523. This, fortunately, doesn't happen on Wayland but for x11 there is a workaround. Try installing pipewire-module-x11

Benjamin

@gamingonlinux Have the same and figured it out: My headset/speakers kinda shut down when there's no sound, and then when OWA plays that short "new email" sound the speakers don't wake up before the sound has played already and all I get it a faint "Pop" of the speakers waking up but not playing any sound.

Should go without saying but seems I need to: if you reply to me with any bigot views and anti-trans shit I will fling you into the scorching sun.

@gamingonlinux
I have progressed past the "I will be polite and not engage with the clueless" to "I'll be polite, mostly, but I will tell you how wrong you are and bring receipts because obviously no one else has or you just didn't listen particularly well."

Surprisingly, it works with people, even fundamentalist Christians. RU bots and NAZIs, not so much.

Keep up the good work!

@gamingonlinux some people have built their eintire personality on hating trans people and its getting rediculous

Here we go again ๐Ÿ˜… England and US say it differently. Plz learn thereโ€™s differences between US English and British English. Thanks ๐Ÿ˜˜

@gamingonlinux As I saw on a BBC ad I watched long ago: "English properly spoken"

Ivyyy :antiverified:

@gamingonlinux
Plz also learn that there are so many other variants of English like Canadian English
It's very frustrating to use apps that only have UK or US spellcheck options (or even worse just one of them)

If you have any decency, fight back.

It's your choice."

@gamingonlinux I'm currently trialing moving my gaming PC to linux as my primary OS, with Windows for those handful of games that don't work.

Working well so far!

Alex L.

@gamingonlinux I'm sure some creative virus writers will have a lot of fun with that feature.

Today after Fedora updates, Audacity records fine but gives me no audio output ๐Ÿคฆ

Can export and listen in another app, but Audacity just seems to not give output audio. Sigh.

Steve's Place

@gamingonlinux It's complicated, lol. I've been there before. I think it was jack audio messing with the audio. Another time it was fuse. But that's ubuntu and I'm not sure what Fedora is up to these days. Maybe Audacity doesn't have the right output port set.

Raptor :gamedev:

@gamingonlinux doesn't audacity just use pulse by default? If you're on pipewire did pipewire not open it's pulseaudio socket for some reason?

Stuff like this is where being a control freak shines, I refuse to use a distro with packaged updates so that when I run my updates I know EXACTLY what everything is changing and can roll back any part.

Anyone else's Flatpak of Kdenlive broken?

Just tells me "QPaintDevice: Cannot destroy paint device that is being painted" in terminal. So frustrating.

Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

UPDATE: Feral emailed to correct the record, they're *not* doing a Linux port.

King of Red Lions

@gamingonlinux I think this is fine, there's both an upfront cost to porting software and an ongoing maintenance cost. As Proton has improved, there have been diminishing returns from porting vs. just using Proton. I'm hoping this means they will test the game with Proton during development and ship it in a working state.

@gamingonlinux You know what I love? When I click the "yuzu" link in that article, I actually get taken to yuzu's website, instead of a list of every previous article you've posted about yuzu, unlike SOME OTHER GAMING SITES. Keep it up!

Miklo Hoffman

@gamingonlinux Tried it last night. Plays a lot bettter and smoother. Better than switch hardware. Still some minor hiccups but nothing that hinders the game experience.

duser

@gamingonlinux
Running yuzu flatpak on fedora and the last couple updates made the game crash more often, but damn it was so clean.
There are three major bugs on yuzu with TOTK and i cant wait for them to be fixed

Disco Cat

@gamingonlinux That game was a nice mash up of genres, I finished it when it came out, but I didn't think they were still releasing big updates for it. I might install it on the deck :)

Andrew

@gamingonlinux Well maybe it IS possible to polish a turd, and who am I to judge someone who chooses to try it? ๐Ÿคฃ
