@Gargron if you look at it a certain way, it looks like the ankles and feet of some godzilla-like creature.

@Gargron Ah, my old stomping ground, my family used to go up there pretty often when I was a kid in the 70's, grew up in Santa Cruz.

@Gargron Yes, breaking news with no content warnings. Like grownups.

@Gargron This may well have been Mastodon's "Now he is a footballer" moment.

@Gargron That's a HUGE bathroom, for San Francisco! Love the triadic composition.

@Gargron This looks like a screenshot from the game "Liminal". Smooth, even, soft, full of light. I love this!

I wrote about why Google search telling us all to eat rocks isn’t as serious an issue as it claiming there’s a non-existent Dr. Seuss book. fastcompany.com/91132217/googl

@harrymccracken

Couldn't agree more. To be honest, I still haven't seen any legitimate use cases for generative AI. All they have done with it so far is ruin search engines and make it much easier to spread misinformation and disinformation. AI is much more useful when trained to do one very specific thing really well. To me this all just feels like Web3 hype all over again.

Ölbaum

@harrymccracken I once asked Bing Bot for a list of books on a given subject. I then have it back the list, asking which ones exist. One of them it said it didn’t exist, with, as references to support its answer, the Amazon and GoodReads pages for the book in question.

Starxxon

@harrymccracken I know it's not your fault, but I had trouble reading through the article with that uncloseable and un pauseable auto-playing video that remains at the bottom of the screen. It can be made smaller but it continues to play which to me is very distracting.

@neven yuuuuup.

It feels to me that they don’t value the relationship we have enough to actually write an email (and request information atop that!).

I have a friend, a ‘tech guy’ who had a virtual assistant for years. When he told me to shoot him an email to figure put when we should meet, that triggered the virtual assistant pipeline who basically took over the entire dialogue and interaction.

I didn’t talk to my friend, I was relegated to a bot.

Misty

@neven Good read. It really does feel like breaking the social contract, right? If they couldn’t be bothered writing the email by hand, why did it need to be a full email in the first place? Why send an email instead of using some kind of short form messaging they could have actually written?

Keenan

@neven I read this and it made me sad, and the more I think about it, the sadder I get.

@GossiTheDog

I would have never used Opera due to it not being FOSS but it's always nice to have more reasons.

@GossiTheDog Opera Mini for java phones will randomly redirect you to full-screen ads instead of whatever link you clicked on.

I'd like to remind all Mastodon users that you can add a language filter to any follow relationship on Mastodon.

If you follow me and you don't speak German, you can easily remove my German posts from your timeline by adjusting the language settings.

Go to my profile page, select the dot menu and click "Change subscribed languages". Then select the languages that you speak.

This really is a hidden gem 💎 on Mastodon and not many people seem to know this feature :awesome:
