The most maddening tech discourse these days is that we need AI to figure out how to solve climate change.
We've known how to completely solve climate change for more than a decade, thanks. We just don't want to.

Iβm pretty sure Sylvester (tuxedo) was asleep when Simon (orange) took up this position, because he usually doesnβt tolerate Simon being quite that close. #Cats #CatsOfMastodon #TuxedoCats #OrangeCats Have you heard of a mineral called Ulexite?

@fesix @fesix I hadn't, thank you - a quick search reveals it has the nickname "TV Rock" which seems quite appropriate π

@malwaretech I think your toot was unfair - to the spoons, not to Trump. Not fully original on my part: in Duck Soup, Rufus J. Firefly (Groucho Marx) "apologizes" to Ambassador Trentino after calling him a baboon by saying, "I shouldn't have said that. It was insensitive of me. It isn't fair to the other baboons." I've been disappointed to see journalists I respect sticking with Twitter, but the more dangerous Musk gets, the less I can maintain that respect. May we all experience the simple uncomplicated joy that Shadowβs fabric fish gives him Guten Morgen Fediverse π Wir kommen ein wenig spΓ€t zur Party, aber selbstverstΓ€ndlich zieht auch bei uns ein #plushtodon ein. @NewtonMark this story might drive change though, as a Bad Thing has happened to a jernlismser, which as we know from extensive history in Australia is far more important than when it happens to a member of the great unwashed. @NewtonMark Legally, I don't get how this is an issue. If my business model is a robot that punches a few random people in the face each day, I am liable for assault. If my business model is an AI system that defames people, my company is liable for defamation. Where do you get your strength? Anonymous poll

Remind me this beautiful song by Jimi Hendrix : I might be a bit ahead of the curve here in November but I'm bored so... My top albums of the year according to last.fm.

@Gargron, it's fantastic to see two Hexvessel albums there. I saw them play in Berlin last week, and they are an amazing band!

Always interesting to live in a time when people are either picking a party to accelerate the human race back into the dark ages (No vaccines! No weather forecasting! Women are property! Only white men are created equal!), or not.. and having it being a "close race" per media. π€¨ |
@quinn it's just a way to dilute the argument and weaken support for any solution, if you can add ever more "but ifs", in order to both-side & all-sides, and hand the destructive status quo a win.
@quinn I'm old enough to remember a wave of posts about using blockchain to...do something...that would solve global warming. At least it gave me lots of people to block on LinkedIn.
@quinn Exactly. Take the billions away from the billionaires, use them to solve the problems.
