@nixCraft love this. As an aside, installing Hacker's Keyboard makes ssh much more bearable. @nixCraft Wait, you put a private ssh key on your phone then on a server somewhere have it set as an authorized key? This type of behavior.. I could try to find a video that properly expresses the shock I feel (and ever so slight glee), but I will let my text suffice.

@nixCraft Except for the last image, generally agree. People's laziness leads to creating more and more compatibility layers instead of creating a native application. That's life ) But that doesn't mean we shouldn't pay attention to the fact that we want more and more native applications to appear, instead of just being satisfied that something can be run by spending a lot of resources on compatibility. Google is doing everything to drive Firefox users with adblock extensions crazy. Some Firefox users are still experiencing a 5 second delay when trying to view YouTube content. YouTube's response: Pay for premium, switch to Chrome or disable your ad blocker.

@nixCraft yt-dlp still works, for now. I suggest downloading everything of value then figuring out where to post it later. To celebrate the 30th birthday of DOOM, here's a thread of everything that I've found that DOOM can run on. Some are real, some... maybe not. It's up to you to figure out which π Let's begin with: DOOM... on an ultrasound scanner. Full thread here on X/Twitter https://twitter.com/Lord_Arse/status/1733921349356146787

It's OK to say, "I don't knowβ to many tech problems. It is of great value to realize that we do not know answers to everything even though we are connected online 24x7. Just sayingβ¦

@nixCraft I've been a happy Labrador since a stack of SLS floppy disks in 1992. Ubuntu since 2005. But I do hate Windows. @nixCraft We were taught at school (a long time ago) that there are no other systems except Windows. The office is only from Heads up: YouTube premium prices are going up again. Ugh. How many times are they going to increase the price? Didnβt they also crack down on adblockers? It is getting ridiculous expensive now. I would just go walk outside instead of watching stupid videos

@nixCraft For people who watch mostly educational/non-fiction content I'd recommend seeing if Nebula meets their needs. It's a creator owned platform and during sales can be as cheap as USD 30 a year. @nixCraft the adblockers move was so bad, now adblocks starts the ad and scrolls it to the end with a yellow screen

Yesterday, I went to a site where "copy" was disabled in the menu.... (but ctrl-c worked just fine...) Absolute Enable Right Click is brilliant, once you realize that you have to enable it for each site you want to override

@nixCraft another thing that's very broken today. Is there a Bugzilla for world problems? How can we submit this as a bug report for printer makers globally? So strange that inkjet printers are still so popular in some parts of the world.

@nixCraft I used to manage a Performance Lab at a VOIP company. Most of the company's labs looked like this, but not our's. The one exception was when we let some engineers install an ethernet switch on their own, which they installed UPSIDE DOWN and they ran most of the cables through the middle of the rack. :eyeroll: π

@nixCraft The guy on the right may be an average employee of a large German electronics store. PS: I am not of the opinion that the majority of employees are like that. It depends on the market and the particular employee who gives this impression.

@nixCraft I started with 4.0 in 1991. First IDE ever, kinda sprang fully-formed in a world of CLI. Love at first sight.

@nixCraft ..that everybody just uses private IPv4 and NAT because "IpV6 iS DiFfiCuLt!!" GitHub: Can no longer search code without being logged in https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/77046 I guess they are trying to block bots (especially AI bots) like everyone running a website with useful data. Every major site is now restricting access because data is the next gold mine to train shitty AI bots

@nixCraft Searching code without being logged was also not possible around a year ago. I donβt think that this is a new thing. Still awful, just not new awful. |
@nixCraft what do you mean. That's the most important question to ask before you buy a car.
@nixCraft
Damn, I think they've caught on...
@nixCraft 3.5 or 4? π
