Pixelfed Groups will support Lemmy and other projects ✨
Groups may ship without support for every platform, however our goal is to support every fediverse Groups implementation!
Thanks to @NGIZero for funding our Groups feature ❤️

I did a bunch of refactoring to separate Groups comments, hashtags, likes, media, statuses and other models from the main app for performance reasons, so it will be another day or two before it’s ready! The new Pixelfed app compose screen, it's simple and works well! Share Intents are supported as well, so you can share photos and videos from your Photos app directly to the Pixelfed app

@pixelfed I think it may be time to give Pixelfed another SERIOUS look, and dumping another popular social networking platform. That we really kinda don't even use. Hmmmmm Brother Sounds great. Is there a plan for dealing with the bandwidth requirements and cost for any mildly popular Livestream? Loops and Sup will have seamless support with each other, and with the Pixelfed app. You can use any one individually, but they will work better together ✨ (We got y'all non-pixelfam covered too, login with your mastodon account into Sup and have the ability to view/share Stories) It's not magic, it's @pixelfed Pixelfed Live is so fun to use, and I'm working on making it even easier to use end-to-end. It's one thing to support Live Streaming, but it's a whole other thing to have that baked into an ephemeral feature that is accessible and more popular with the general public than a dedicated video platform or live streaming platform. I look forward to bringing proper live streaming to the fediverse, via @pixelfed, @loops and @supapp 🚀

Is there a plan for dealing with the bandwidth requirements and cost for any mildly popular Livestream? I'm so happy I added mass actions to the Curated Onboarding feature You may be wondering why https://pixelfed.social closes registration so often, and the reason is we get ALOT of spam registrations Our Autospam system prevents them from becoming a problem, but this eliminates potential spammers before they even get a chance Take a look for yourself, and remember most growth on the fediverse is spam. The dead internet theory is alive, and active if you pay attention. Most fedi devs don't 😉 The challenge with a federated DeviantArt platform will be payments, if they can offload that to a 3rd party by allowing users to add links to the store, it could work IMO Otherwise, each instance would have to host their own Stripe payments account, and other complexities Not to mention, giving Apple/Google Play 30% of the cut In @pixelfed, we're handling this by allowing users to add links to specific items that redirect to 3rd party platforms We can do this, watch me 😎 Wouldn't it be nice if you could press a button to test federation/mobile app support and diagnose any issues with instructions on how to solve the underlying issue(s)? We think so. Easier installation = Happier admins We just enabled GitHub Discussions for our mobile app repo, and added a new onboarding screen that will appear once you login to our beta app for the first time! We can't wait for you to see how better and faster our new app is ⚡️ We're preparing our new app for beta release! This weekend you will be able to download a beta APK directly from our GitHub repo ✨ It will be rolling out to our beta testers on Google Play and TestFlight next month! 🌟 Big news! The new Pixelfed app will introduce Collections. Curate and organize your favourite moments like never before. ✨ Coming very soon, along with federation support for Collections! 🌟 Big news! I'm experimenting with new profile layouts in the new Pixelfed app. Which one do you prefer? (current, alt 1, alt 2)

How can we further improve Accessibility on the new Pixelfed app? Feedback and ideas greatly appreciated!

@dansup One thing that I think could help with the alt text is something that says "here's all your images without alt text, in order of engagement: you can enter alt text for them below." @dansup support LLaVA or similar model for alt-text generation describing images. The @IceCubesApp for Mastodon does this very well (see example image and auto generated alt text below) and may be worth a look. Also this article from @joe was useful for me in understanding where to start with this. https://jws.news/2024/how-can-you-use-llava-and-node-js-to-describe-an-image/ Looking into a DeviantArt importer to Pixelfed, what perfect timing with Groups, Marketplace and upcoming Collection features ✨

@dansup Will the imported images automatically be set to unlisted with no way to change it like it does for the Instagram import?

@pixelfed what I loved about the old DeviantArt is that there was an actual menu and categories, rather than just search. DeviantArt is virtually unusable now since they removed the very comprehensive side menu. Especially for reference photos. @pixelfed Two features I miss are gallery folders and favorites lists. It's handy to be able to sort artworks into categories that don't quite work as searchable tags. (Especially since a lot of pixelfed.art users seem to tag for search/visibility rather than semantics.) I loved being able to browse an artist's faves and see what art/artists excited them. I think the new Collections feature is one of these but I haven't followed closely enough to know. @pixelfed One thing I *wished* dA had was an easy way to view galleries chronologically. I will argue for pagination until the cows come home, but it only does so much good if you bookmark a page and what's on that page changes because the artist uploaded a bunch. |
@pixelfed
Oh wow! This is a fantastic idea! Integration for different formats of content in the fediverse is crucial for any new implementation!
