Artists and DeviantArt users, what features would you like to see in Pixelfed?

@pixelfed I think one of the big challenges fedi media sites face is the warring factions regarding people getting paid. DeviantArt enables/encourages people to make money on their art (which is maybe contributing to its rapid enshittification, but also why a lot of struggling artists depended on it for so long). Fedi users are often overtly hostile to money changing hands, but most artists either get paid a little something for their art or they simply can't afford to do very much art. @pixelfed for me, I’d like to see a snappier public profile, with viewers able to choose between grid and feed view. The lovely thing about DeviantArt was that whoever I sent the link to didn’t need an account to be able to see the art in its best form. The Pixelfed profiles are pretty much perfect if you’re logged in, but if not, the page reloads and the 3-column grid view don’t show off the art in the same light as a single-page app with a scrolling feed of full-sized images. Esp on mobile @pixelfed I tried importing my pictures from Instagram and some of my pictures were under the .webp format. But Pixelfed doesn't seem to support .webp. Would be great if that image format was supported. EDIT: video for reference Detect and Ban: Protect original art by automatically watermarking it on upload. @pixelfed we need an easy way to share across the fediverse. People are always stuck using their social networks and never use the hashtag or fediverse tab. This one big problem with sharing needs to be addressed by either making it easier or not having us do marketing strategies to get views. @pixelfed Definitely video, video would be awesome for pixelfed and gifs for sure. @pixelfed what I loved about the old DeviantArt is that there was an actual menu and categories, rather than just search. DeviantArt is virtually unusable now since they removed the very comprehensive side menu. Especially for reference photos. @pixelfed Two features I miss are gallery folders and favorites lists. It's handy to be able to sort artworks into categories that don't quite work as searchable tags. (Especially since a lot of pixelfed.art users seem to tag for search/visibility rather than semantics.) I loved being able to browse an artist's faves and see what art/artists excited them. I think the new Collections feature is one of these but I haven't followed closely enough to know. @pixelfed One thing I *wished* dA had was an easy way to view galleries chronologically. I will argue for pagination until the cows come home, but it only does so much good if you bookmark a page and what's on that page changes because the artist uploaded a bunch. |
