fediDB.org is a valuable resource for the fediverse in many ways

I'm aware of the lack of opt-out and robots.txt support

In the near future, #fediDB will respect robots.txt rules, and provide a manual opt-out feature to remove your instance on demand

So proud of @pfefferle for all the hard work they put into the official WordPress plugin.

Kudos 🙏

@dansup @pfefferle Great work on your projects, gentlemen! It’s been a real joy following the progress that you’re leading in the open tech world.

I’ve never seen this before, I wonder what “advanced privacy protections” they mean

Seriously though it could be some cross site scripting thing or a false positive that it broke the site

@dansup Probably they should say that those "anonymized" web statistics are in fact less anonymous than expected.

@dansup Is there a threshold to meet to be included in the software section? @bugle is pretty barebones but it _is_ a project in this space.

Also I guess I’d need to add a reporting endpoint for the instance for stats and things?

The new `avatar:storage-deep-clean` command was able to cleanup over 400GB of avatars from pixelfed.social!

Consider LRU caching for files you download from remote servers. Basic idea is that you have a configurable storage limit for all downloaded files and you keep track when each of them was last accessed. When downloading a new file would exceed the limit, you delete oldest files until there is enough space.

Federation and media processing are slightly backlogged on pixelfed.social

We are cleaning up old avatars with about 200k jobs remaining!

Edit: We're back to normal with the exception of IG Import, we expect significant delays in import processing for the next few hours

My goal for PubKit and Sup is to gradually cede control to the community

I want to lay a solid foundation and then move out of the way

Integrity and trust are essential for such endeavours, and I promise I will not let you down, I hope you join us on this journey

GNU/Pilot - an AI code completion companion that ingests your existing projects or code to learn your style and autocomplete or automatically close PRs based on your code style

Watch out M$, Gitea GNU/Pilot now exists as an idea, and I may even try build a PoC

Sup, PubKit, Solo

These projects are still being actively developed, and I'll have more details to share later this month

For now I'm focusing on backend bug fixes / performance and submitting the iOS app to the App Store

One more thing, there are dozens of WIP features like Groups that will also be rolling out in the coming weeks!

It will be worth the wait 😉

Working on a few backend bug fixes, currently fixing the avatar cache logic

The issue is we store remote avatars and update them after 24 hours (which is being changed) and we never purged older avatars, leading to avatar caches ballooning to multiple GBs (containing dozens or hundreds of old avatars)

The fix will be shipping soon, and will contain a command to manually purge old avatars

Happy Tuesday!

This week in #pixeldev I will be focusing on:

- bug fixes
- handling our issue backlog
- shipping the first iOS build to the app store (pending review)

@dansup Is there a list somewhere of some of the best people to follow on Pixelfed?

Ben Pate 🤘🏻

You’re awesome, Dan. Thank you for all the amazing work you’re doing.

Can I ask about the status of PubKit?(hopefully without sounding ungrateful) Clear, usable test cases are so hard to find, I’ve actually paused my work in ActivityPub until your code drops.

@dansup I noticed I can sign in into Pixelfed.social using my Mastodon account.
But on Lemmy.world I could not. Is cross log-in something to be implemented on all fediverse services?

My AIM statuses and profiles were... Oof 😬

I'm glad the Internet didn't have the memory it does now back then.

The worst part is, due to my obsessive data hoarding and keeping going of all my old computers, I have them backed up 🤣
