Is it Gargron? Is it evanP? Or me?
We the big three like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammed Ali"
"Love when they argue the hardest DEV Adding in-app registrations to the @pixelfed app is challenging, and not for technical reasons The decentralized nature means anyone can start an instance, but what happens when the admin decides they want to shut it down, or shut it down without notice? I think the app should limit in-app sign-ups to trusted instances that won't disappear overnight A potential compromise could be invite QR codes, or app links Thoughts?

@dansup just let people have an option to specify the domain manually. If they already know that from somewhere then they most likely have a reason to use that specific instance. It of course doesn't need to be shoved in your face and I personally would not include a full list of all known instances in the app directly but not offering signups on arbitrary instances as a feature to advanced/knowledgable users massively gimps the app and goes against the federated idea of the whole thing imo. @dansup Is there a way to specify an arbitrary instance for the usecase where someone already knows where they want to sign up? HOLY SMOKES! New Drake album just dropped, shoutout to the mandem who stayed up to hear it first 🔥 Started watching #shameless a few days ago, now on season 2 I'm hooked, what an iconic show Edit: It's the US version @dansup British or American version? I've only watched the US version and thought it was entertaining, but English humour is usually more up my alley

@dansup a while back I did a case study on dating app UX, where I tried out nearly every popular app on the app store. Not a single one was without sin in the onboarding. The most common flaw was using the wrong input type for a lot of data (eg, dropdowns for date fields, text fields for numbers, generic input for email, etc) Theres a balance between taking too much information and too little, and very few walked the line. I should probably put out a call for react native developers who want to help with #Sup If you’re interested, join our discord (link in @pixelfed bio) I’ll need a few trusted contributors to help maintain the project while I focus on other things, I will establish a solid foundation first of course 😎 "what does pixelfed do that Mastodon doesn't already?" I might be biased, but I think this is an interesting question Mastodon does provide many photo sharing features, and so does Pixelfed The real difference is in how Pixelfed limits feeds to photo/videos compared to Mastodon's microblogging It's a different experience, but that doesn't mean you have to limit yourself to one or the other!

The user-experience is different. A lot different. And that isn't a minor thing. From the user's point-of-view, that is all they know of an application. (Things like the back-end are almost completely invisible to them.) I'm doing some pretty significant refactoring to the @pixelfed app - Replacing AsyncStorage with MMKV - Re-wrote the navigation stack - Refactoring components to use native RN as the UI library we're using is being deprecated These aren't as pretty or exciting as most updates are, but these foundational updates are necessary for the public release 😅

@dansup @pixelfed Aaaah....that's virtually my complete wishlist for #pixelfedapp 🤩 Push notifications: Please say we're talking #UnifiedPush a la #Fedilab / #Element, rather than just "route all your notifications through #Google / #Apple"-push... |
