So many great memories playing GTA5, mowing down noobs while Night Moves by Bob Seger played on GTA Radio I used to play GTA5 every day for at least an hour, but I rarely play it now So many good tunes on GTA5! I honestly do feel guilty about @loops success when just a week before I reached out to @stux and offered my help to build a mobile app for GoldFish I don't want him to lose interest in #GoldFish and all the hard work he's put into learning front and backend development I stick by my word and will write a basic GoldFish app and teach him native app dev and he'll be one of those unstoppable fedi devs in no time π Collaboration > Competition β€οΈ Don't get me wrong, I love Mastodon and everything it's done for the fediverse That being said, I don't want Loops to become the only short form video platform, or the only well known one I'm working with @stux on his own short vid platform called #GoldFish and PeerTube to enable seamless interop We're stronger and better together There is no reason NOT to work with "competitors" because when you have the right mindset and goals: You build for the people, and listen wisely.

@dansup There are a couple of projects out there I am working with one called #wethepeople #wtp @dansup@mastodon.social @stux@mstdn.social yet another vine project. huehuehue @dansup @stux I remember when Vine was the only short video platform. I never ever visited the website, but we saw Vines everywhere on Twitter and Tumblr back then. Eventually it folded, and then TikTok came and filled the void. Then Youtube and Instagram and all kinds of platforms suddenly added short videos in order to get a piece of the cake as well. I still don't get the appeal of short vertical video. I was planning on announcing Loops as an April Fools joke, but what started out as a joke ended up turning into a real project, lol I only started working on Loops a few weeks ago! It was a combination of reaching out to @stux to offer to mentor him with his GoldFish project, and the TikTok ban, that really made me reconsider a serious approach. This is why I had to make last minute April Fools joke about me joining Meta and wishing farewell to Pixelfed π Loops is real, and will be here soon @stux Stux bro, my offer still stands! Let's start building your GoldFish platform, it would be so cool to have Loops and GoldFish launch around the same time! Gosh, I'm just so happy with the potential to work together, I think you have so much potential as a next generation fedi developer and would LOVE to assist you in making GoldFish the best it can be! Let's show the fediverse how true collaboration is done, and let the users decide which is best for them πͺ β€οΈ π @loops The backend Loops server (loopd) will be open sourced later this week! Keep in mind, this doesn't mean it will be production ready yet, and the app won't support other instances initially, that will come in the next few weeks. I'll be open sourcing the mobile app during the beta too, I want to get this right this time!

Feeling well rested after taking yesterday off! Letβs get the Loops beta shipped! πππ I'm honestly considering a paid verification program in Pixelfed to help sustain the project long term. It would be a centralized list, and would be present in clients, regardless of server. A blue checkmark would not only help our project financially, but would also provide a trusted visual mark of verification. Thoughts?

Better that than VC #Enshittification. Or even have storage quotas and/or require unpaid accounts to have disappearing posts. I'd much rather pay for the service, then see it go rogue against the community's interests and welfare. I am all for ethical monetization to support the long term viability of the project. The trick is to do it with methods that match the values of the project. Something that centralizes and de-anonymizes users is against the values of decentralization and privacy. I suggest instead that you approach hosting companies to do deals where you refer people to them for a recurring commission thereafter, and they provide managed, quality, pre-set up Pixelfed packages. @dansup i was thinking about this, and maybe verification and payments should be kept separate. But, would be great to have an optional subscription module, helping support both developers and hosters. Something like: - Free 1Gb Storage I'm running the following services myself, and your donations are increasingly important! https://pixelfed.org Please consider donating at one of the links on https://pixelfed.org/support-our-project Together we can achieve so much, your support helps us go even further β€οΈ @dansup theyβre like your favorite pens. No matter how many you buy, you will quickly be down to only one and you have to defend it with your life. |
@dansup I never really got into GTA V-- San Andreas, closely followed by Vice City were my jam π
I used to play SA:MP/VC:MP mods for too many hours and write scripts. Writing scripts for those mods in my teens is the starting point of my software dev career!
