I feel like every federated platform will inevitably add some form of machine learning or algorithmic discovery if they want to grow beyond 1M MAU I don't think it's a bad thing if done properly Thank god for Autospam*, it really helps reduce the moderation load as its quick enough to catch and hide posts before users see them! Autospam 2.0 is game changing, and will be released early next year π₯ nobody: womans western vest spammers: offering a glimpse into the diverse and evolving landscape of Western-inspired fashion Pixelfed announces leadership transition The board of directors of Pixelfed.org that acts as the overall governing body for all Pixelfed activities, today announced that Daniel Supernault will depart as CEO and leave the board of directors. Tuk Cat, the companyβs chief meow officer, will serve as interim CEO, effective immediately. Also, dogs and any content including dogs are now banned across Pixelfed, effective immediately.

I feel so petty for even complaining about negative pixelfed comments, I realize how lucky I am There are a lot of fediverse projects that don't have the publicity or reach that Pixelfed does I'll work on prioritizing my time better I really appreciate y'all for being a part of this journey, we're on to something here β€οΈ

@dansup @dansup thanks for all you do, Iβm really looking forward to solo, Iβd love to deploy it for my grandparents, theyβve had a terrible time with photobucket trying to keep all their pictures I noticed the #artemis app for Kbin no longer works and after some digging it seems like the developer burned out It's unfortunate to see, and is a reminder that we can't take the #fediverse and our developers for granted! To prevent confusion around the progress of my apps and services, I'll no longer be posting development updates on this account. Sorry Pixelfed isn't moving fast enough for some of you

@dansup sorry youβre getting such hate! I wrote this after staying up all night to ship the hashtag follow app update and waking up 3 hours later to a few negative comments It made me reevaluate my priorities and want to focus on the aspects they brought up The eternal struggle, I feel guilty about working on PubKit, Sup, FediDB and other projects when people point out Pixelfed issues or feature requests, and when I do, I get a few comments about Sup, PubKit release dates and I'm doing my best to ship them The neg vibes don't help Pixelfed admins will be able to customize related hashtags too, as well as limit the algorithm to approved-only hashtags The new pixelfed app hashtag screen is a work of art β¨ - We use a clever (on-device) algorithm to de-duplicate similar posts (because ppl like sharing the same photo across multiple accounts) - We display a total count of hashtag posts that is now updated more frequently - You can now follow/unfollow hashtags on this screen - Browse up to 12 similar hashtags and a few more upcoming improvements π @dansup I don't know how it works on PixelFed, but on Mastodon when I follow a hashtag I don't know if I am seeing a post because of my following the hashtag or if I am following the person/account or just the hashtag. It would be nice if next to every account name there was an indication if I was already following them. That way if a new account comes up under a hashtag follow, and I think, "I should follow them" I will know whether or not I actually already do so. π β¨ Related hashtags You will soon see a list of related hashtags when browsing tags on the #pixelfedApp! @dansup Probably the wrong place to ask, but are there any plans to improve/simplify the process for adding new posts on the web app? I can design a workflow for this if that'd be helpful. Btw, you can view the hashtags you follow in Settings -> Relationships -> Hashtags https://pixelfed.social/settings/relationships/home?mode=hashtags&page=1 @dansup Unfollowing a hashtag from the webui doesn't seems to work on pixelfed.social. Its gone from the settings but my iOS app feed is still getting new content from the hashtag :/ Sigh, the hashtag follows & home feed refactor are working as expected with the exception of text-only followed hashtag posts being added This is a bug, and I will ship a fix tomorrow, while we do sometimes show text-only posts, when you follow a hashtag, you don't expect to see text-only posts. My apologies! β¨ pixelfed.social users: you may notice posts from users you don't follow in your home feed - hashtag follows are now live! You can see posts containing hashtags you follow on the webUI and mobile apps if enabled by your admin, details below π Admins: https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/pull/4752 Spread the word π

@dansup I don't follow any hashtags. So why do I see posts from people I don't follow???? I'm gonna go, go, go, there's no stopping me

@dansup @pixelfed Still no idea about when you would like to make the mobile apps #opensource? π Once I have some time later this month, I want to work on a year in review page on https://fedidb.org to highlight all the amazing growth and progress in the fediverse! |
@dansup I'm way past 100 users I follow and it's too much signal.
Exclusive Lists help in topic categories, but ultimately I can see myself avoiding the feed because of its intensity.

@dansup instead of server-side algorithms or ML models, I'd say have an option for users to create and modify weight models for content - toots by this user gains 1 point, this hashtag gains 2 points, etc.
Which can then be adjusted per interaction by the software, but would be still open to the user for their inputs. I'd personally love that.
